Medication for morning sickness?

I am currently 6 or 7 weeks pregnant with my second child and the dreaded morning sickness has kicked in with avengance! Could cope with being sick in the morning but it's the constant nausea and this time I have a 2 year old running around!

I visited the gp today who prescribed me some prochlorperazine. I've never been offered medication for this before and am wondering if anyone else has taken this with any success. I'm a bit nervous about taking medication in pregnancy but can't face another 6 weeks of this Sad

Thanks for any advice in advance.

I tried this but it only worked for 3 days for me. I'm now on metoclopromide at 24 weeks and it pretty much keeps the nausea at bay, although I still have bad days.

Give it a try, and if it doesn't work go back to your gp to try something else.

Yes I was prescribed this, and same as you was nervous and consulted mumsnet. I found it worked better than the three previous drugs I was given so advise you to take it if you feel desperate. That was the deciding factor for me in the end - the need for relief!

Thank you so much for your replies. You forget there are others going through exactly the same as you!

I have started taking the medication as yesterday was such a bad day. Feel guilty for not being able to interact with my DS. Have only taken 2 doses so a bit early to tell but am hoping it helps and can at least function on a basic level!

Just need to remember it will go eventually!

I just wanted to help put your mind at ease and little more. I suffered pretty badly with hyperemesis gravidarum all the way through my pregnancy. I was admitted to hospital twice and put on some medication to stop the sickness and had to continue with it most of my pregnancy. I had no choice but to take it, but it didn't effect my baby at all. It just made everyday life more bearable. I now have a beautiful, very healthy, bouncy 2 year old baby boy!! Good luck and I hope the sickness and nausea stops soon.

Thank you for your reply skittles. I have felt much better today. Only sick once this morning which I can cope with! Nausea has been much improved. The thing is, the GP wouldn't have prescribed the medication if it was a risk.

I will continue with the meds until it wears off and then I can enjoy the rest of my pregnancy! Smile

I have the exact same thing, unbearable nausea and absolutely no break from it at all, completely miserable and also have a 2 year old running about... I can't tell you how bad I feel but doc won't give me anything because I'm not actually being sick Confused

I second trying another Gp super. The nausea is by far worse than the vomiting. Also this time having a 2 year old I have no choice but to get on with it.

The tablets have reduced my nausea and I can actually get up and function when last time I could hardly get out of bed. I know how miserable it makes you feel as you become so exhausted!

Hope you get some relief soon. It's worth it in the end but I can definitely say this is my final pregnancy!
