Have you had these symptoms of pre-eclampsia and then been fine?

I'm 31+4 and I noticed today that my hands and feet have became swollen for the first time. I had my 31 weeks check with my GP and mentioned it to my GP who wasn't too worried about it, but then she did my blood pressure and it was 130/90 and I had a trace of protein in my urine.

I have to go back one day next weeks to be checked again, in the meantime I am panicking.

Has anyone had these all of these symptoms of pre-eclampsia but not actually been diagnosed with PE?

Hi there. I had it and my feet and hands were suddenly very very swollen. They basically blew up completely. It was different from normal pregnancy swollen. Good luck. I know it must be so worrying but if they were that concerned they would take you into hospital straight away surely?

I had exactly these symptoms. I was, in the end, absolutely fine. But I did have PE and I was very lucky to have it picked up quickly.

Don't panic, but absolutely do go to your appointment, and go and see someone straight away if you get dizziness, headaches, odd pains or just don't feel right. (Hard to tell what's "right" at the end of pregnancy I know!)

Really, don't panic. Even if you have PE, don't panic. The important thing is to have it spotted and managed / treated.

Sit tight and good luck for safe arrival of your baby!

I had bad pre-eclampsia and HELLP (though all fine now with a very healthy 7mo!) so although I don't fit your criteria I didn't want to read and run.

I think I was 140/100 with + or ++ for protein when they sent me in to be induced at 38 weeks, so all that is worse than you describe (came a bit out of the blue as I'd had low BP up until then). Obviously your GP knows one hell of a lot more about this than I do, but I think in your place I'd want to ask for more frequent monitoring than weekly to be on the safe side, if only for your peace of mind. I would call your midwife team as they're often more clued up than GPs on pregnancy symptoms and treatment and may have different advice to your GP.

I'd also make sure someone gives you advice on what other symptoms to look out for if you've not been told this already. Again I'm not a medic but from memory, visual disturbances, headaches, abdominal pain or a swollen face are signs you should contact your medical team urgently.

Hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply.

I haven't had any swelling at all up until yesterday and then I could see my hands swelling and I can feel that they are swollen, too they feel really tight and tingly. The same with my feet.

My GP is lovely and I don't want to undermine her opinion as it was only trace protein. I had some visual disturbance last week but I think that was due to me not having had breakfast and I felt really dizzy.

I have had some cramping but I was just putting that down general pregnancy!

I think I will take your advice and call my midwie team jessplus just to put my mind at ease. I feel a bit nervous waiting until next week and would rather know now.

No swelling but I did have protein in urine and raised blood pressure this week. Was sent for blood tests and all kidney / liver function all clear. I'm 38 weeks.

Don't panic! They will keep a careful eye on you.

Try not to panic - I had eclampsia in labour with DS (seizures) as unfortunately my symptoms were not picked up. It was a very scary time for myself and my son, he was delivered quickly under a GA and thankfully I was in hospital (obviously as I was in labour) so they were able to help me out of danger.

I did not have swelling at all.

With DD I was understandably paranoid that this would happen again, roll on 26 weeks pregnant or so and there it was, the BP creeping up (despite being on meds) and protein in the urine. My BP meds were upped, and I was seen regularly with regular scans. DD stayed put until I had a c-section at 38 weeks - she was a lovely 8lb+ baby and had no issues at all.

I am currently 25+5 with DS2 and so far my BP has been a little high but no protein.

They will keep an eye on you, keep yourself aware for any flashing lights / excessive swelling and report immediately.

I found with DS I had a 'buzzing' noise inside my head, which unfortunately I ignored (didn't think relevant at the time). I didn't feel right but couldn't exactly say what I felt was wrong! If you feel like this please report it!

The long of the short is, because you have the symptoms does not mean you will have a full blown episode, but best to be more aware of symptoms and don't be shy in reporting. Good luck OP Flowers

The first sign of high bp for me with DC1 meant that I was tested daily, and a higher score on the second day meant I was sent in and induced (I was 37+6). Weekly is IMO not good enough and you're not undermining your GP to get seen by a midwife. You need a closer eye kept on you, a week is a long time to have BP issues unsupervised. It's not worth the risk. Let us know how you get on and good luck :)

Thanks for your posts.

Seen my midwife today (she wasn't happy to wait until I seen my GP) I've had a blood test taken and will get the results tomorrow as I have another blood pressure check at hospital.

Fingers crossed it's good news!
