Blood in urine

I had a midwife appointment (24 weeks) today, and when she dip tested my urine she said there were traces of blood in it but that she wasn't concerned.

What could have caused this? I have been having stomach pains, but she said they are growing pains rather than UTI pains. I don't go back for another 4 weeks now, so I'm just concerned about what I need to be watching out for incase it gets worse in the meantime.

I'd go to the GP and ask them, kidney infections can be quite symptomless and can cause a few complications further down the line. I really wouldn't take the risk, I'm sure the midwife is probably right but I'd get a 2nd opinion anyway.

Hi hun, sorry this happened to you I know it causes a panic,

Before I was pregnant I went for a routine check up and the nurse found traces of blood, I was really scared as I has no other symptoms, the doctor said it could be an infection that has gone away on its own.
In pregnancy you will need antibiotics to get rid of it so.i would call your doctors, tell them what happened and they might do another dip test or send it away for a urine analysis just to be sure you dint have an infection, Put your mind at ease a bit more.

Xx

I don't know if this helps, but if she did the standard urine dip (the stick with lots of different coloured patches on it) then it would also pick up two other indicators of infection - leukocytes and nitrates. If you didn't have a positive result for those two, then I'd guess that's the reason she's not super worried about it?

Having said that, I would be on the cautious side and definitely keep an eye out for those feelings of a UTI/infection and ask to be re-tested in a few days.

After a couple of times thinking I was getting a UTI but not being sure enough to go to the GP about it, I bought the dip-sticks myself on the 'net and test once a week - if it shows anything concerning, I get myself straight to the GP.

Thanks for all your replies. I'm glad you don't think I'm being really ridiculous by worrying that it won't be tested again for another 4 weeks.
She did do the dip test and nothing else came up, so like you said MrsAnxiety, that's probably why she wasn't concerned. I just can't help but worry if it gets worse in the meantime, cos I already have stomach pains so I can't look out for that symptom of a UTI if that makes sense?

I'd see your gp and speak to them about getting a sample sent for culturing.

I had blood in my wee few weeks ago, no UTI symptoms or nothing else in wee. She sent it off anyway. It did turn out I had a uti and needed antibiotics so its definately worth going to gp.
