Best/ recommended video and sensory baby monitors

I have definitely decided that I would like a video monitor which also has sensory pads for movement (I know not everyone agrees it is necessary but I would like this for peace of mind).

However, I am floundering as to which is the one to plump for. Have seen good deals for Angelcare, Motorola and tommee tippee but open to other suggestions too....

Reliability is more important than cost though and I would be grateful for any recommendations from mums/dads with first hand experience of these. I have checked out the review section but there are not that many to go on....thanks! Smile X

Hello!

We've noticed this thread is quite old and some of the suggestions are a little out of date. We've spent weeks speaking to parents and testing out baby monitors. Read our reviews to see which product was crowned best video baby monitor.

Hope that helps! Flowers

We have the tommee tippee and still have the video plugged in two years later. I use it once a week to see what he's up to or if mil is babysitting as she is hard of hearing.

Tommee tippee one for us too.

I wouldn't be without the video monitor. We've used it every day since he was born (even taking it on holiday with us) and even now at almost 2 still use it to see what he's up to and it's still going strong

Sensory pad was reassuring but very sensitive despite altering the settings and after several false alarms (including one 5 in one night) we abandoned it and just stuck with leaving the monitor on overnight. However speaking to friends with different sensory pads they've all had trouble so not unique

We didn't have sensory pads but out Motorola video monitor was brilliant. The sensor died after an encounter with DD when she was 2.5 but we had more than had our use of it by then

At what age would you recommend using the baby monitors? I'm 38+1 and this is the one thing we don't yet have.

We thought that as the baby will be with us for the first few months, we didn't need one yet and obv during naps etc I'll bring the Moses basket downstairs so she is with me. Therefore we thought we could get away without buying one for another couple months or so....

You won't need one for a while tbh. Our baby is four months and we've only just got around to getting one. She naps downstairs during the day and sleeps in a co-sleeper crib at night so no need for a monitor.

Depends, Chocolate, some parents never need one. And of course also depends on your living arrangements and if you can hear the baby without the monitor.

I got the sensor one (Angelcare) from birth, as I was quite anxious and even when the baby was in the co-sleeper next to me, I would wake up several times every night just to check that he's breathing. This, hopefully, is not an issue for everybody.

From about 4 months onwards, he would no longer nap in the same room with us, but needed a dark, quiet place. Of course, ideally and according to SIDS guidelines, you would then sit in this room next to them while they nap, but in real life you might have other things to do, so this is also when you could use a monitor. You will probably want one from time when you start putting them to bed in their own room.

Thanks very much for the recommendations! Edging towards the Tommee Tippee one I think.

What about the award-winning Motorola MBP36S?
