Rhesus Negative - Anyone else?

Hi,

Got a letter about my blood tests that were taken at my booking appointment, and explains am Rhesus Negative. Been reading about it all morning. Part of me isn't worried, but the other part is a little. Am currently 11 weeks, had an early scan at 9+5 days, and anything was good with heartbeat etc... but now i've found this out i can't help worry a little. Now i just want my scan (2 weeks away) to make sure my little Peanut is still there bouncing around.

Is anyone else Rhesus Negative, and how did you feel? And how did your pregnancy's go? This is my first. Smile

Hi Nutellalover....I am also Rhesus Negative. I am 32 weeks and have had a very good pregnancy so far. I have felt well, the only real symptom I have had is extreme tiredness in first and third trimesters. Baby is very contented.

I had an anti-D injection at 28 weeks, which was fine and I have been taking Spatone a liquid iron supplement every morning to ensure that my iron levels are boosted. I have been told my all my midwives that the Rhesus negative issue is not a problem at all....

Good luck x

I've known I was A- for years as I had a termination whe. I was 18 and had to have anti D afterwards. My mum is also rhesus negative.

I didn't have any problems with my pregnancy last year, and you're unlikely to either. Just get yourself checked out if you have a knock or a fall at any point.

cleowasmycat · 09/04/2015 13:08

I am, it didn't effect my pregnancy at all. Just a couple of extra routine injections.

ShoeJunkie · 09/04/2015 13:08

I'm rhesus negative and have had two completely healthy pregnancies.

I had to have anti d injections during both pregnancies (one per pregnancy!) and ds2 had to have an injection when he was a few days old as he was rhesus positive (ds1 is negative like me so didn't need one). Other than that I didn't have any issues or problems.

Congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers and try and stay away from dr google! Chat with your midwife if you're worried.

Hi, I'm rhesus negative and have 3dc, no problems at all, had to have the anti d injection twice, during pregnancy and after the birth.

Don't worry I think it can only cause problems in future pregnancies (not the first) and only if you don't have the anti d and your first baby is rhesus positive, which all mine are.

Just means you get extra injections.

Roseybee10 · 09/04/2015 13:09

I'm R neg although hubby is too so I didn't need the anti d. Do u m ow hubby/partners blood type?

seaoflove · 09/04/2015 13:10

It's honestly a non issue. Just take the Anti-D, and request an extra jab if you suffer a fall or big knock to the bump (minor knocks aren't a concern) and you'll be fine. You'll also be checked for antibodies in future pregnancies and treated accordingly.

Lorelei353 · 09/04/2015 13:10

I'm O Negative (found out when I was pregnant). I had absolutely no problems during my pregnancy (DS is nearly 2 now). I had anti-D injection at 28 weeks and when DS was born they took some blood from the cord so they could find out his blood type too. If he'd been positive I'd have had more anti-d but as it happens he was O Negative too so I didn't. Other than that, if you get a knock to the bump, call your midwife. Otherwise, you shouldn't have any effect at all.

museumum · 09/04/2015 13:17

I am. I had the anti-D. My ds is rhesus + (he's A+ and I'm O- apparently these are about as different as you can possibly be) so he had the coombs test when he was born but it was contaminated so the results were inconclusive and he needed a couple of jaundice tests in the first 24hrs or so while we waited for the test to re-run. He was clearly absolutely fine though so I wasn't worried, but it did mean an extra night in hospital.

If the baby's father is also rhesus negative then you have absolutely nothing to worry about so it's worth asking your dp to go and give blood if he doesn't know his blood group.

Thank you for your replies, makes me feel at ease. It's lovely to hear all had good pregnancy's too. I was going to phone my midwife to talk through how i was feeling.

I will stay away from Dr Google ShoeJunkie Grin

I don't know Partners blood type, and neither does he as i asked him last night Hmm

Thank you again Ladies, this has made me feel better Smile

It was such a non issue for me. The only difference was I had anti d shots after the births. I didn't give it a moment's thought.

Scotinoz · 09/04/2015 13:25

I'm Rh neg and my husband is Rh+.

I didn't have an Anti D injection during my first pregnancy, although did have it after the birth as bub was an Rh+.

I was offered it around 28wks with my pregnancy, although declined it. I'll have the testing again after delivery and have it if required.

I've have 2 good pregnancies so far.

Scotinoz · 09/04/2015 13:27

Sorry, that should read "...with my current pregnancy"

Adventuregame · 09/04/2015 16:24

I found out I was RH - after an ERPC for a miscarriage. From everything I've read it's not something to worry about as long as midwife is aware etc.

I'm going to ask DP to have blood test cos if he's negative it will take away my worry when we start ttc again !

WhenMarnieWasThere · 09/04/2015 16:30

I am rhesus negative and had an anti-d jab in my bum after any miscarriages, bleeds or labour.

I had to remind my midwife in my second pregnancy to book me for the jab as she'd not remembered.

dementedpixie · 09/04/2015 16:53

I am B- and dh is A+. I had anti-d after both pregnancies so am assuming they are both +ve blood groups

dementedpixie · 09/04/2015 16:54

We both knew our blood types as we had both given blood previously

nousernamesleft · 09/04/2015 17:01

I'm O- and didn't get an anti-d injection during my first pregnancy. Had a couple of bleeds and a very prem baby, who developed rhesus disease. She was given a full blood swap, and has never had an issue since. She was badly jaundiced, but that's mostly as she was so prem.
I was given the anti-d after pregnancy 1, and both during and after ppregnancies 2 and 3, and we've all been fine.
So, basically, I had pretty much worst case scenario, and all was fine, so try not to worry about it.

geekymommy · 09/04/2015 17:15

My DM is Rh-. DSis and I are Rh+ and are still bouncing around. Well, we're bouncing around as much as anyone does when they are 37 and 40 and have young kids.
