mother's intuition on whether baby is boy or girl

hello all

i was just wondering if anyone had strong views on what they were having, and whether they were proven correct or not? i am convinced this is a boy, but OH and everyone else is convinced it's a girl!

some of my friends swear that they knew. others say they did too, but were proven very wrong indeed.

what do we think - is there a mother's intuition on this or is it just lucky guesswork?!

I was convinced I was having a boy, and I did. Funnily enough when I went in to hospital the midwives said he'd be a boy as I had some problems they thought pointed to a boy (although I think statistically that's probably nonsense)
This time I think girl as the pregnancy feels so different. I'll let you know hopefully in November!

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 09/04/2015 13:30

I was 100 per cent convinced that I was having a boy from day one. Really strange as, although I had no preference, I come from a family that always seems to have girls (other than the boys that we marry in order to have more girls!) I was right!

GoooRooo · 09/04/2015 13:35

I was 100% sure I was having a girl. I had a boy.

I'm pregnant again and trying not to guess this time.

OMC1 · 09/04/2015 13:54

I have a feeling it's a girl, but no idea as we didn't find out at the recent 20 week scan!

Gillian1980 · 09/04/2015 13:58

I was absolutely convinced from the start that she was a girl, no doubt in my mind. I didn't even consider boys names etc.

Most friends and family we're guessing boy.

Sure enough we're expecting a girl :)

FunkyPeacock · 09/04/2015 14:00

IMO it's all bollocks!

50% of those who guess will be right, which will include plenty who are 'right' for 2, 3 or more children - it's just statistics however much someone may try to persuade you otherwise

Have you ever played the tails or ears game at a social event? The person left standing managed to guess heads or tails correctly on every toss of the coin but no one believes that person has some sort of psychic powers do they??? I hope not anyway!!

Lunastarfish · 09/04/2015 14:02

From very early on in my pregnancy I was convinced baby was a girl. My family convinced it was ca boy. Scan said girl.

newbian · 09/04/2015 14:02

I don't know that it's intuition but I always refer to the baby as a boy. DH asked if I know something he doesn't! But we'd be happy with either.

Rebecca1608 · 09/04/2015 14:30

I was adamant that I was having girls, no idea why. I've never been pregnant before even so have nothing to compare my pregnancy to. I only looked at pink clothes (or girly colours and frilly outfits) thought of only girls names.
My mum said she had a dream that I was a baby in the back of a car in a blue sleepsuit and said it was a sign I was having boys as usually things she predicts come true (freaky/coincidence) but this time she was wrong and I was told at around 18 weeks they were girls and every scan since (if different sonographer) tell me they're girls.

Carrierpenguin · 09/04/2015 14:35

It's not intuition - there's a 50:50 chance your intuition will be right. I was wrong both times Grin

flanjabelle · 09/04/2015 14:36

Thought baby was a boy. She wasn't.

PunkrockerGirl · 09/04/2015 14:37

I was 100% sure that dc1 was a boy and I was right. When the midwife told us it was a boy, I just thought why is she telling us this, I know it's a boy!
I wasn't at all sure with ds2 though.

4hayters · 09/04/2015 15:20

I was absolutely certain all three times that I knew what I was having. I was also absolutely wrong all three times! Pregnant now and have a very strong feeling that is a girl - we will see in August when it comes out!

sianihedgehog · 09/04/2015 15:24

I was totally sure I knew. I was also totally wrong. :D

TheTravellingLemon · 09/04/2015 15:31

Pulling this out of the depths of my brain, but wasn't there a study done at some point and it showed mother's intuition was right a statistically significant amount of times. I want to say 75 per cent.

I knew. I bought things in blue without really realising. I just thought 'this blue hat is good for a girl or a boy'. Confused also, never picked any girls names.

unlucky83 · 09/04/2015 15:34

Another convinced DD1 was a boy ...I'd only bough a few bits of clothing - and they were unisex -but probably erred towards boyish.
There are a couple of photos of her where you would think she was a boy (until my mother who lives a long way away started buying her hideously girly dresses - think white lace with matching pants for a 3 month old . There are plenty of photos of her in those. (put it on, take photo, put in recycling Wink)

hippymama1 · 09/04/2015 17:16

I didn't have a preference but I was convinced I was having a girl and had chosen outfits, a name, a pram, toys, everything! Had my scan and an expecting a boy. Wink Equally delighted of course, just got to think of a name for him now!

heatherxo · 09/04/2015 18:21

When we found out I was pregnant OH was convinced was twins.. Turns out we were pregnant with twins! I lost one a few weeks ago but just knew I was having two boys- also correct!
