irishamy89 · 08/04/2015 11:29

Hi ladies. I can't seem to find a price for NCT antenatal classes only that I will be paying the 'London price band'.
Does anyone know how much that is?
Thanks Smile.

I didn't actually see how much mine were going to be (warwickshire) until I went through as if to pay for it after Id reserved a place. Try doing that. You aren't committed to anything

irishamy89 · 08/04/2015 11:41

Thanks Lego. What did you pay? Smile

In total it will be £210. 2 x£85 for the course and 4 x£10 for membership. Or I think you can pay in one lump.

Zahrah5 · 08/04/2015 11:48

they told us 270, believe that was without the membership fee.

We decided not to go.
I spend 160 taking weekly antenatal yoga classes which were great to have stretch and exercise on weekly basis plus learned bits and pieces about labour and birth there.

mitty13 · 08/04/2015 11:50

if its the signiture couse your after its 16.70 per hour for London band so you could work it out from course outline

WelshGirlSeeksMarmite · 08/04/2015 12:53

I'm in London and have paid £309 for my course starting later this month. I chose not to join NCT as it doesn't really seem worth it, so that saved another £40.

Fanby · 08/04/2015 13:05

Ours is around £280 in London (without paying the joining fee - again, didn't think it was worth it). Depending on your household income etc you can get a reduction I believe

skinnylegs33 · 08/04/2015 13:16

We pay £270 (chose to pay it in Instalments - spread over 3 months). It would have been more with the membership, therefore I chose not to subscribe.

irishamy89 · 08/04/2015 14:28

It seems a lot, as it's my first I don't know whether it will be worth it or not so I guess I will have to take a chance.
Any other ladies on here in the Barnet/Totteridge and Whetstone area?

www.nct.org.uk/courses/course-details/reduced-price-options

There are reductions up to 90% for those on lower incomes, benefits, under 18s etc.

irishamy89 · 08/04/2015 16:42

Thanks Dino. Unfortunately we wouldn't be eligible for any reduction. Though I guess that's lucky too as we can afford it. It's just another potential cost on top of the others thats amounting to £KKKK haha Smile.

I've booked mine - SW London - and it was 350. Seems ridiculous but Ive heard it's worth it so fingers crossed.

irishamy89 · 08/04/2015 16:53

Wow Cornberry that's a lot! Is that in the Lambeth/Clapham area by any chance? The venue of the NCT class I may sign up to is in one of the wealthiest areas of the country (not saying I'm one of them, I wish haha!!!) so I'm really hoping that doesn't hike up the price. We can afford it but I don't want to throw money away!!! Smile

AbbeyRoadCrossing · 08/04/2015 17:07

It was over 300 in north London last year so I didn't bother - I didn't qualify for a reduction but knew I was going to be on SMP. Anyway, I just wanted to say that you'll make friends anyway from baby groups etc. I was so worried by people telling me I'd be isolated by not doing nct and making friends before birth and I wish I'd known that wouldn't be the case as I worried unnecessarily about it. Also some Sure Start centres do free or cheap pregnancy clubs - I found about those too late unfortunately but that's a cheaper option if your area do them to meet women due around the same time.

hestialou · 08/04/2015 18:52

390, decided it was just a bit too much....

irishamy89 · 08/04/2015 18:53

Wow wow wow hestialou! What area was that in? So extortionate!

caker · 08/04/2015 19:04

I wish I hadn't bothered, wish I'd done the free NHS ones and saved the money. An expensive regret!

Lunastarfish · 08/04/2015 19:10

for surrey/southwest london the quote I had was for £325, that included the membership fee. I posted a thread a while back at my shock of the price. I didn't do it, i've done Daisy Foundation instead but someone on my Daisy class is doing NCT as well

ItsADinosaur · 08/04/2015 19:17

We paid over £300 for sw London. I have to be honest it was worth it for the friends I made. It was great to have a group of people going through the exact same thing and a good excuse to get out the house and meet up once the babies arrived.

The NHS classes I did we're so busy, 100+ people, there as no chance to get to know anyone or ask questions. Plus I found Nct better for the Dad's too. Much smaller group and they got to ask a lot of questions. And they all went to the pub!

southlondonbaby · 08/04/2015 20:24

If you're worried about cost of nct it might be worth checking out the daisy foundation, as it's 72 quid for a course same length. my partner is doing a class in bow, London, but they're all over uk. Same set up as nct but with yoga. OH really liked it. They also have a couples class. We decided not to do nct because of cost and people telling us it's more for socialising than anything.

MissTwister · 08/04/2015 20:48

Daisy is good but I am not sure it's like NCT - there's no socialising or particular encouragement to socialise on the one I'm doing right now! Plus there's a big difference in where we're all at pregnancy wise

allotherusernamesaretaken · 08/04/2015 21:32

£300ish but well worth the money. Not so much for what we learned but for the group of new mummy friends who are so so important in those early weeks (and still are 10months on). I would thoroughly recommend it.

Cornberry · 08/04/2015 21:32

irishamy it's in tooting. I bought the membership as well for an extra 40. Some of my friends found it a valuable experience so I thought I'd take the plunge!

irishamy89 · 08/04/2015 21:51

Oooh I might just have to take the plunge too! Smile
I told dp tonight about the potential cost and he doesn't seem fazed....

If you are doing it to make friends I would see what other opportunities are available in your area first. We are in London too and there were so many Mums coffee mornings and social groups (many run by the NCT) locally that I found it v easy to make friends. I started going when I went on maternity leave and made a few friends by the time I had my baby, then lots more after, as something was on every day. I preferred meeting mums with babies of different ages (almost all under a year as mat leave) who could give advice rather than a group with babies all the same age. I have since met mums who did the NCT course and they have only kept in contact with the mums who live very close to them, and lost touch with those who live a few tube stops away, so it is worth checking what area the NCT recruits from.
