Oh and sanitary towels too (didn't want to put that in the title!)

For an ELCS with hopefully just a one night stay.

Thanks

Take a pack of size 1 nappies and about 20 maternity pads. Don't take sanitary towels - they can mask blood loss and smell and it's important to monitor both in case of infection.

I'd put 10 of each in your bag and leave the rest of the packs in the car for dp to fetch if required. 1 night is quite optimistic in my experience. I did 2 nights for each of mine and the walk to the car park was a bit of a challenge.

I did two nights after an ELCS. I took a lot of nappies but probably only got through ten or so, if that.

Pads, well until you actually get up and about after your catheter is removed and the spinal has worn off you'll just be lying on a maternity mat thing in bed so won't need a pad, my elcs was about 5pm and I wasn't up and sans catheter until 7am the next day. I think I probably got through 10 pads before I left, just take a packet.

I can do the Enhanced Recovery they offer now which is only one night. Thanks

Yeah, you need maternity pads not sanitary towels. I'd take in 20 and have some more at home/in the car ready. They're only cheap so better to have more than not enough!
I took in a pack of new born nappies, so 24 I think. Newborns poo quite a lot.

I am also solving this dilemma. I can not fit much stuff in the bag, it is already full and dont even have there clothes for myself and have no option of leaving extra in the car, I will be going by taxi possibly by myself, depending on circumstances if my husband is home or not when time comes.

Would not 10 and 10 of each be sufficient?
If held up longer the husband will have to go home anyway as I gather they are generally not permitted on post natal wards in the night?

PazRaz1975 · 08/04/2015 10:49

I took a pack of each - but OH ended up having to bring smaller nappies than I had bought as she was a tiddler.
But 10 of each would also be fine - there will always be an opportunity for OH or someone else who is visiting to bring more if required.

You will need about twice asany maternity pads as you think you will!

I am planning to take a pack of nappies (think there ar around 36??) and 2 packs of 10 towels

Stay as long as you can! I enjoyed the help I had and the hot meals! Plus on night one I couldn't sit up to get baby out of his cot and night 2 I was still trying to get the hang of bf.
If there are any complications or reasons you have to stay in extra they will give you pads if you run out

allotherusernamesaretaken · 08/04/2015 21:36

Newborns don't wee or poo nearly as much as you think. You won't need as many nappies as you think. I used maybe 5 in my 24hr stay.

Guess how many maternity pads you need and then triple it and add some more for luck!! You will be really really surprised at how many you need. Get the really thick ones, I got the boots ones. Don't use sanitary pads as they aren't breatheable enough.
