What happens if baby doesn't turn?

In 35 week and my baby is still breech. Iv tried everything to get him to turn but he's staying put, right under my ribs. I just want to know will my pregnancy just carry on as normal from now on, or will something have to happen? If that makes sense. Will I be offered a ECV? If so when, and can I decline this?

Just getting a little worried now, but I could be worrying for nothing.

I was breach at 35 weeks and was rescanned at 37 (I think) and she had turned so I'm afraid I don't know what my options would have been.

But yes, you can definitely decline an ECV - you don't have to do anything you don't want to. I would have thought you will be offered a C Section, but again this is up to you. You can still deliver a breach baby, but may be worth speaking to the midwife team to see how much expertise they have in this and some midwives have never had experience of it - as so many woman do choose the c section route.

My ds1 was transverse for ages right up until 36 weeks. Was pretty much definitely going to need section but last minute he turned

Due ds2 soon and again this one is also transverse ( must be the shape inside that's comfy) so I'm hoping again that he turns.
Good luck.
Try not to worry. These things have a way of working themselves out. And if they don't you will just have to do what's best and what the specialists recommend.

You may be offered an ECV which you can decline. Then your options are a vaginal breech birth (should your hospital offer this) or a c section. Have had three breech babies!

Thanks everyone.

I really do hope he turns sometime soon. The thought of having an ECV really scares me and I would have to decline.

I declined an ecv and opted for a c section. The baby had been breech pretty much since I first felt her kicking the stubborn little monkey. It was fine, and there was no pressure regarding the ecv.

Hi, I found out my DS was breech at 36 weeks. I saw a midwife again at 37 weeks to check whether he had turned - she didn't think he had and sent me for a scan to confirm this. The scan showed DS was still breech so I was offered an ECV or ELCS. I had the ECV a few days later but DS didn't turn so I had an ELCS at 39 weeks.

I didn't really discuss the option for a vaginal birth. The doctor discussing my scan advised that she didn't recommended it for a first baby. I just went with that advice as it felt right for me and had a C-section.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy and try not to worry if your little one doesn't turn.
