Hot bath panic

Okay - first panicked post of a nearly 6 week first pregnancy. Came home cold and tired on Saturday so ran a hot, deep bath and soaked for a good 30-45 minutes. Only afterwards suddenly thought that maybe wasn't such a good idea, googled and of course all sorts of horrors found - a significant rise in core body temperature can lead to abnormal foetal development, especially in first trimester.

Think am probably being super-paranoid - bath was hot but not boiling (didn't end up sweating, light-headed etc), and I didn't add extra hot water, just let it cool down as I soaked. But still scared I could have cooked baby at crucial stage of brain development...

Any reassuring anecdotes from the similarly bath-addicted much appreciated...

Don't worry. The human bidy is designed to regulate temperature quite effectively.
Pregnant women are even more efficient at it than the rest of population.
Plus you generally find if you do something you shouldn't whilst pregnant, your body will let you know quick enough.

Absolutely fine - as long as you weren't feeling over hot and sweaty which you weren't. Baths cool down very quickly which is why they're not worrying like hot tubs which stay heated

I'm sure it's totally fine even though I totally understand the panicked googling after the event. But look at all the women who give birth very successfully in really hot countries!

It's totally fine, as a PP says, a bath cools down so even if you were hot when you got in, you would be cooling the whole time you are in it.
Hot tubs and jacusszis aren't really recommended as they maintain a constant hot temp which could cause you to feel faint etc. Although even 5mins in one of these wouldn't do any harm either.

I was told you will want to get out of the bath due to feeling too hot long before you can do any damage!

I've been a huge fan of a bath every single night of my pregnancy - I sleep better and my hips are so much more comfortable after a soak :-)

Thanks so much for the replies - very reassuring! Think I will continue having baths and just make sure they're not too hot. Thanks again, feel much better :)

you can have your bath as hot as you like. To have it hot enough to hurt a foetus it would need to be far too hot for you to get in.
