Yes, it can be normal but it can also be a sign of a potential problem. Any change in movement needs checked out.

pieandmighty · 06/04/2015 21:11

You can go into your GP for a quick heartbeat check if the surgery is closer. Perhaps invest in a good heart monitor. It really kept me sane during those quiet days.

DaleyBump · 06/04/2015 21:11

*checked out ASAP, not tomorrow.

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 06/04/2015 21:12

Particularly if a Baby deviates fro it's normal patterns of movement, it is advisable to get checked out.

DaleyBump · 06/04/2015 21:12

Please don't use a doppler. Unless you're trained in it's usage, hearing a heartbeat is no sign that everything is okay. Not that there's something wrong, but a baby in distress still has a heartbeat.

RainbowMamaDarling · 06/04/2015 21:27

Get it checked darling. It's probably fine but Maternity Assesment would always advise you to go in.

No one will think you are wasting time etc if that's worrying you.

BlacknWhitePanda · 06/04/2015 21:30

It is better safe than sorry. It could be baby having a rest or moved into a different position or it could be something else.
Have the piece of mind and get it checked out!

Sillysausage2 · 06/04/2015 21:37

Is it lesser movement than normal or none at all? Do go and get it checked out just to be on the safe side.
I'm 24 weeks and had been getting lots of strong movements for weeks and then had a few days of much less and quieter movements. I had a GP appt anyway and she sent me to the hospital just to put my mind at ease and everything was fine

Bex174 · 06/04/2015 21:39

I had this the other day and I'm about the same way along as you. Fairly regular movements then suddenly 2 days of not a lot at all.

Called the antenatal unit and in their words "babies are sugar and glucose parasites!" They advised I downed a sugary drink like full fat coke/lucosade and ate something very sweet (such a chore!), then follow that with a glass of very cold water and lie on my left side, rubbing stomach and see if they started jiggling about within an hour. If they didn't, then I was to go in and get checked out. If all started moving again, then they were probably just in a bit of a quiet phase.

Sure enough, half hour later I was cursing them kicking away at me full strength again!

Might help you to try this and see if it works for you!

pieandmighty · 06/04/2015 21:45

Indeed, get checked out for your own peace of mind. I always went through this same anxiety with my 3. But just before I could flip into anxiety over-drive, the movement would start again big time and LO would go from being utterly motionless to keeping me awake nights. Hopefully LO is just having a nice rest before he/she decides to annoy the living daylights out of you for days on end. Wink. Good luck. It's so reassuring when that movement starts back up after a dry spell.
I am sorry about the ealier doppler suggestion. I live with a GP so I take for granted that indeed, this should be done by a trained professional. Hearing a heartbeat is always a good thing though.

MissTwister · 06/04/2015 22:13

Its really hard at this stage - am nearly 24 weeks and movements seem to really vary. Yesterday baby was going mad but today they have been much quieter. Advice seems to vary from 'this is normal' to 'always go in' but if I went in it would be every few days!

Definitely ring your midwife though and get their advice not ours. Xx

HollyC255552 · 06/04/2015 22:23

Thanks ladies..really appreciate all your comments.

I have just felt a few little movements again but I'm definitely going to get checked out just to be on safe side. I'm such a worrier with this LO already. Xx

Hi holly, I had the same at 24/25 weeks. Rang the day unit at the hospital who said that they don't do anything until 26 weeks and to ring midwife. Midwife said it's fairly normal due to various reasons- one being a growth spurt. I'm now 27 weeks and he still has his less active days, I think it's his routine now. I would ring midwife in first instance and she can tell you what to do next xx

Nanny13 · 06/04/2015 22:45

Ease get checked asap

Bex174 · 08/04/2015 11:48

Hi Holly, how did you get on? All back moving again?

MorgansMummy24 · 08/04/2015 12:07

The heart is the last thing to go which is why it not advisable to use a Doppler for reassurance when movements decrease.

BifsWif · 08/04/2015 14:35

Try not to worry too much, they ask you not to check movement closely until 28 weeks as it's still so unpredictable any earlier than that. Get checked out to reassure yourself, but try not to panic im sure baby is fine. Smile

HollyC255552 · 08/04/2015 17:57

Hello ladies,

Sorry i have been meaning to post. I did get checked out and everything is fine with baby. Soooo happy. Thank you for all your comments though they were really appreciated and such a help. As pe Bifs comment i was told to monitor movements more closely from 28 weeks. Apparently baby can still get into all sorts of positions at this point so thats what might of happened. Probably doesnt help i have an anterior placenta either so i might not feel as much. Just hope i dont have anymore scares!! I'm such a worrier with this little baby - and many more years to come. Xx
