I just had a midwife appointment (I am 9 weeks so early on!) but she mentioned a whole host of risks and things i would need to do and I feel terrified now!

This is m 6th pregnancy, I take medication for high blood pressure (and have had high blood pressure since before dc1 was born!). In the pregnancies I have had before I have needed to increase the dose of medication but it has never caused any serious problems all the children were fine as was I.

But this time I have to take asprin from 12 weeks, have loads of extra appointments and scans, heparin injections later on, and a canula when I give birth as well as probably a longer hospital stay after.

I have no problem doing these things, I am not thrilled with the injections part but ill get over it I am now however feeling terrified! I am convinced something awful is going to happen!

I should add with the other pregnancies I have never had any bood clots, had very quick easy births with no problems after.

Is anyone else feeling a little overwhelmed?

You need them to explain more about why these actions are good in your pregnancy. It sounds like everything's changed with poor explanation, or explanation you weren't ready to take in.

The odds are that nothing about you has changed, but some study has come out that shows that this regime is ideal for people like you. So the situation is probably no different from before (nothing is actually any riskier), all that's changed is the procedure they like to follow.

Have all your other pregnancies gone to term?

I have the following risk factors:

  1. High blood pressure (even when not pregnant)
  2. Eclampsia in labour (DS!)
  3. Pre-eclampsia (DD)
  4. Full lumbar spinal fusion
  5. 2 previous c-sections
  6. Thickening of artery in my heart

So far all is going good! Been having regular consultant appointments and I am booked in for a c-section under a general in July.

Currently 25+1

I try not to worry unless I have to, it's no good for the BP Grin

Oh and two previous babies over 92nd centile so I have to have a GTT!

I expect it's probably because you are now classed as a 'grand multip' - basically, because you've had several pregnancies before you're at a slightly increased risk of developing DVT (I know increased age is another tick box for needing heparin injections) and of bleeding heavily after the birth, hence the cannula. Chances are as you've had no problems before you'll be fine but the cannula is just so they're prepared so if anything does happen they can get fluids in you quickly.
