Which mattress did you get for your little one?
I've got the cot bed but there's millions of mattresses to choose from now! Who does the best deal and how much did you pay?

Hi, I work for babies r us so hopefully this will help.
For a cotbed u need to have a spring interior mattress foam mattresses are good for occasional use ie grand parents.
U can get an open coil interior or pocket spring, pocket give better lumber support but open coil are really good value and spring interior last longer. I did use the babies r us Duo airflow mattress for my daughters cotbed, it has a removable outer layer for any accidents and has a potty training side for when the time comes, it's currently on offer from £159.99 to £79.99.
where ever u buy from def go for spring interior. I hope that helps

You don't 'need' a spring mattress for a cot bed and babies most certainly don't need lumbar support. Even adults don't need lumbar support in a bed so that right there is a line of guff woven to shift overpriced mattresses.

The mattress needs to be clean, fit the cot bed securely and be easy to clean in case of vomit and wee accidents. That is all. I did PFB mattress buying for DS1 and he refused to sleep in his cot bed, ever, so I deeply regretted the huge amount of money I spent. Unless you're planning on putting your baby in the cot bed from night one, I think you need to find out what kind of sleeper they are first (eg in Moses basket or bedside cot) before you part with your cash.

I asked this the other day in chat because I was confused about whether to get a foam or spring mattress. Every single person replied saying spring, as foam can retain heat and contribute to babies overheating.

KatoPotato · 05/04/2015 10:31

DS coped just fine with a plastic coated foam matress from babies r us. DS2 due and we're getting a new one, and having to skip the old one because no one will take it obviously!

Penguin what mattress did you order in the end?
I can't believe how many different mattresses there are! Who knew mattress shopping could be so stressful! X

Yes that was the mattresses I was on about. Spring interior last longer than foam, it's better to spend more money on a mattress than the bed.

KateTuf10 · 05/04/2015 10:45

Foam indents very quickly that's the main reason for not using one.

I bought a pocket sprung mattress which was half price from John Lewis. Main reason is that myself and my husband sleep on a pocket sprung and I feel that they are a really good mattress :) plus we had vouchers for John Lewis.

Everyone is going to have a different view on this though.

I've ordered the babies r us one kate said about as had very good reviews and want to be safe and spring seems logical.
Glad I asked!
