Due date question

Ok, first baby so maybe a silly question.

When it's your due date does your midwife contact you? Or do you just simply wait for labour to start? When would they contact you?

I'm due 22nd August but provided it's not a risk I'd be happy to get to the 1st September . Would they leave be till then?

Thanks.

I think it varies a bit depending on where you live but you should have a 40 week appointment which would be on or near your due date. If everything is fine they'll probably leave you for another week then start talking about sweeps/inductions,etc. If there's no risk to you or the baby waiting until 42 weeks before inducing is common (might be 41 weeks for older women?). Either way, you don't have to be induced if you'd rather not. So you could make it to September. Of course, the baby may have other ideas and arrive on or before your due date anyway!

Your given appointments to see your midwife throughout your pregnancy. No-one contacts you on your due date if you go into labour you ring the labour ward and they will advise you on the next course of action.

The NHS usually offer antenatal classes for 1st pregnancies. Ask your mifwife about them and see when you can get booked on. They give you all the information you need.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, i hope you have a wonderful pregnancy and birth and a brilliant life when the baby is hereThanks

Oh and in my area if you go overdue they usually like to induce you 12 days after your EDD. Unless your not happy with that, they will then discuss alternative arrangements with you.

Thank you, that makes sense. Isn't it funny what you start to think about when you've got so much time to plan and think ha.

No they don't contact you...you'll be having regular appointments by that stage where they'll be monitoring you. If all is fine they'll let you go over your estimated due date and keep up appointments and if you don't go naturally they'll deal with that then.

In the areas I have lived they don't induce (unless complications indicate it would be a good idea) until +14 in one and +15 in the other.

You will have an appointment around 40 weeks, then one a week later if not in labour by then.
