I'm only 19 weeks and since I was 11 weeks I have been on pain with my back ,hips and legs and every day it is getting worse the bigger I get the more strain on my body.
I have had mobility issues since I was young due to being born with a dislocated hip along with a badly damaged tendon in my knee so I'm used to a bit of pain if I have been on my feet but I can't even make a 20 minute walk to the shops without being in excruciating pain for the rest of the day.
This doesn't feel right to be in pain all the time but I told my gp and he said its just my body adjusting to the baby, should I ask for a second opinion? If this continues will I be stuck on bed rest? I want to still be active during this pregnancy but I am struggling with the pain

Its normal in that a lot of people get it but there are things that can help.
Google pelvic girdle pain , and spd i think the nhs site has some good info.
Then go back and ask the gp for a physio referal and advice on what to do to stop it progressing. I used a support belt and had some exercises to do each day from my physio.
Def stop trying to push through as you will make things worse and longer lasting post birth.

Spd - had it with my 2nd. Some days could barly get out of bed to go to the loo. It might get better later on but try to get a referral to physio as pp said. Pregnancy pilates might help a bit too. It's really

Yup, I am suffering in a similar way this pregnancy. I have a toddler and also teach 2 days a week, so being on my feet is a given. But recently my legs, hips and upper thighs were just excruciating most evenings.
Having lots of friends who have been pregnant I recognised it as SPD and self diagnosed. I called my midwife team who gave me a self federal number for the local physios. They saw me the next day and gave me a support belt/ girdle thing to wear when I was walking or standing for any decent length of time. They also gave me exercises to do and advice on management. They can also provide crutches if needed.
Since then things have been better, but I have had to scale back my expectations of what I can realistically do. So I guess I'm saying: - call your midwife

  • see physio asap
  • be sensible with what to do.

It's a real pain (literally and metaphorically) but can be managed.
Rest up.
