Just warning to other pregnant ladies out there, I got a chicken wrap from Leon today cut it in half to eat and found chicken was still pink, have emailled them to advise but no response yet. Couldve been very ill, so a little warning to check food. Picture attached of some of chicken.

Gosh, I eat lunch here all the time!

MorgansMummy24 · 05/04/2015 13:58

Omg this is horrendous, I'd be phoning environmental health

Chchchchanging · 05/04/2015 20:23

Dh I'll all day after lunch at wagga mamas yesterday, there was seafood in the dish not on menu as containing seafood... He's not allergic but clearly there are contamination issues resulting in incorrectly cooked dishes and food poisoning... Easter Sunday write off Hmm

seaoflove · 05/04/2015 20:26

That looks like brown meat, which looks pink inside anyway.

zoemaguire · 05/04/2015 20:34

Yes, sea, that was my first thought too. From the picture it doesn't look underdone, though it is hard to tell on a screen. Are you 100% sure - were the juices pink too? Cause chicken leg/thigh meat does have a pinkish tinge sometimes even when totally cooked.

seaoflove · 05/04/2015 20:56

And even if the chicken WAS undercooked - which would be unacceptable of course - to call it a "near miss" is a bit extreme, because there's no guarantee you would have been ill after eating it.

As for calling Environmental Health... total overreaction.

TakesTwoToTango · 06/04/2015 02:28

I was also going to say Leon usually use thigh meat in my experience which does have colour even when cooked. I think you may have overreacted a bit here but totally up to you to avoid eating it if you didn't feel comfortable.

MorgansMummy24 · 06/04/2015 10:59

Not an over reaction at all thank you

superram · 06/04/2015 11:09

I think you have over reacted to name and shame without a response from them. It is brown meat, not undercooked. You may have got salmonella which would have been awful but doesn't cross the placenta so baby would've been fine (you would feel ghastly).

MissTwister · 06/04/2015 11:19

What about toxoplasmosis - not as common in chicken as lamb but does happen. Or EColi?

It's hard to tell from the picture - did they come back at all to explain?

MorgansMummy24 · 06/04/2015 11:52

lol so it's okay for us to get ill Aslong as the baby is ok. Being pregnant with food poisoning isn't something I wish to be even if it doesn't affect baby and that meat is not cooked, would you eat that meat?

zoemaguire · 06/04/2015 19:27

Yes, actually I would. Thigh meat is often pink when cooked, and it looks fine to me from the photo. It is of course theoretically possible that something could have slipped through the net and you could get undercooked meat from a reputable chain place like Leon, but it's pretty unlikely. Do you have any idea how strict the regulation is around food temperature? You have to check things constantly with a meat thermometer - every single batch you sell. The chances of that kind of filling being undercooked are very slim indeed.

hestialou · 06/04/2015 19:36

Hi sorry been off line for a few days, I used to work in catering and mum is a chef so well aware what undercooked meat looks like,it has a different texture, also the pink juices and off smell was an indicator. I have also (6years ago) had food poisoning from the same place, only started eating there again in last year or so as was convinced it was a once off.
My reason for posting is that when we buy wraps cant always see what eating and when pregnant food poisoning would be awful, so more as a warning. I have contacted Leon and made them aware and will also advise environmental health, if there is nothing wrong with the food then the store has nothing to been concerned of surely, bur always better to be safe than sorry.

Definately Hestia couldn't agree more! In future I will be cutting my wraps and burgers in half before consuming
