Petite Maternity Clothing

Hi everyone. I've had a look at previous threads for advice but can't find anything bang up to date i.e. 2015 - all the links mentioned have drawn a blank. My son's girlfriend is tiny (around 5ft) and is 3 months pregnant. She has looked in vain for petite maternity clothing. Can anyone point her in the right direction please?

It's tough to find anything tbh Sad I'm 5ft 1 and I've really struggled to find stuff.

I got some skinny jeans from Mamas & Papas that my mum took up in the leg; they're still a good shape even though I had a good four inches taken off!

I've also been wearing River Island leggings that I had pre-pregnancy; they do a short leg length and they're quite high waisted. I've just snipped the elastic as I've got bigger to make them more comfy.

Asos is good for dresses as they're often quite short, so they fit even if you're little.

H&M stuff is good too (now I'm too big for my RI leggings I got some maternity leggings from there and I've just accepted that they're too long in the leg!). But I've had a couple of tops and dresses from there that are good.

Retailers are really missing a trick here though, there really should be more petite maternity stuff available!

I never found any although that was several years ago, sorry!

lebkucken · 02/04/2015 20:43

I found Gap and Isabella Oliver in the smallest sizes fitted me well and didn't need alteration. I'm 5ft 2 size 8.

ChrisQuean · 02/04/2015 21:07

I'm 5'1 and small. I'd second Isabella Oliver. Top Shop had maternity and their clothes were little. If you are in London, try 9 off Sloane Sq. Not cheap though.

I'm the same height. I used to think it would be an issue, but then I grew. And grew. Talking to other petite shortarsed pregnant women, it seems that our bellies grow absolutely massive (unlike my 5ft11 sil who must have been hiding a 10lber under her ribs) because there isn't much other space to put a baby. As far as tops are concerned, normal maternity size had always done me just fine.

NancyDroop · 02/04/2015 21:13

I'm petite and always found lots of great non-maternity but a perfect pregnancy fit for me (5 ft 3) at Oliver Bonas.

irishamy89 · 02/04/2015 21:14

Hi Helen!
I'm also short (about 5'1) and pretty slim (pre pregnancy 6-8). I was really worried that it would be hard to find nice maternity clothes that flattered my size and shape.
I have found H & M do lovely maternity clothes. I bought about about four tops (mainly dressy) and one pair of skinny jeans (a tiny bit too long but not very noticeable).
I am pleasantly surprised at how nice/not frumpy/flattering the garments are on me.
Tell her to have a look and she might find something she likes Grin

DeathMetalMum · 02/04/2015 21:19

New look - they do a lot of their trousers in a number of lengths. I wouldn't bother for tops by the final three months of both of my pregnancies I was struggling to find maternity tops that actually covered my bump completely. I couldn't get on with bump bands either.

cowbiscuits · 02/04/2015 21:33

I got my mum to take my trousers/jeans up for me. Did find some on Ebay too. Got all my maternity jeans on ebay, they are too expensive new.

I've put on lots of weight round my bum and hips since halfway point and now with 3 weeks to go I only have 2 pairs that are vaguely comfortable, the others are too tight but wearable . I constantly long to get home and get my tracky bottoms on.

Having been being pregnant over winter I've had skinny maternity jeans and just tucked them into my boots. If it were summer I'd want them to be the right length.

Never had an issue with tops as I've always been long in the body and as DeathMetalMum says, towards the end of pregnancy, the longer the better with tops. One advantage if you are short in the body is you might be able to wear non-maternity tops a bit longer.

applecore0317 · 02/04/2015 22:29

I'm short and find normal maxi dresses fit better with the bump as it lifts the dress up higher. Everything else I have had to alter.

I did get a pair of my jeggings and cut away at the front of them then stitched a cheap bump band in, means I actually have skinny type jeans that are the right length.

Notamumyet81 · 02/04/2015 22:55

H&M are good for petite ladies. I'm 5'2'' and was size 6 before I got pregnant. A lot of shops, even top shop, who are usually good for petite sizes, start at size 8 in maternity clothes and it's a big size 8 as well (i.e. EU 36, which used to be called size 10). This is useless if petite as totally swamps.

Got two pairs of jeans and a dress from h&m. Haven't had the jeans off - nice and tight skinnies with plenty of room for bump. Leg length tends to be bit long but looks fine turned up and they currently have 3/4 lengths that are perfect as almost full length for petite ladies!

Skiptonlass · 02/04/2015 22:58

My advice is find a good tailor - very few places do things that really fit us shorter ladies! I sew and I find most things have to be tweaked a little.

Frolicacid · 02/04/2015 23:04

Next do petite maternity jeans and trousers. I'm just over 5ft and they fit really well.

Didactylos · 02/04/2015 23:12

I bought normal size maty stuff, mostly on sale and then took it to get hemmed up/coat sleeves altered etc at a cheap franchise tailor
because I am so short that the new petite ranges are now too fecking long as well (since when was petite 5ft 4 and under! Angry)

iniquity · 03/04/2015 07:57

I'm petite too. But I just wear leggings and loose tops no maternity stuff.
I fund maxi dresses made for the Asian market shorter in length. If you can head to a market.

scissy · 03/04/2015 08:03

I got maternity jeans and trousers from Next, but I could only order their petite stuff online annoyingly.

sianihedgehog · 03/04/2015 08:34

I'm 4'11" and a 10/12, and I'm living in H&M. the dresses and skirts tend to be short, so they still look fine on a short arse like me, and like the other women I'm finding that my bump is disproportionately large for how many weeks I am. I'm fairly long in the leg for a short girl so I'm just wearing regular fit skinny trousers, but I do have a couple of pairs in a shorter leg from Mothercare which are good.

changingagain · 03/04/2015 10:05

I'm 5'2", I've bought short work trousers from New Look that are working well and the expensive jeans from Next, I think they were called ultimate maternity jeans or something along those lines. More than double what I would normally pay for jeans but they were definitely worth it, they're more flattering and comfy than any normal jeans I've owned pre-pregnancy.

changingagain · 03/04/2015 10:08

I also have a second hand pair of standard Next maternity jeans that I got on EBay. Very comfy for in the house, but generally pretty rubbish as they wont stay up. I am only 18.3 though so they may be better later on.

EmzDisco · 03/04/2015 10:11

I am 5ft2 and finding it tricky! I have some new look super soft mat jeans which are fab and the right length and that's all I've managed to get so far! Anyone found any short people mat leggings?

KatySparkles · 03/04/2015 23:35

I'm 5ft tall and second next and ASOS for shorter length trousers. I've also picked up a couple of bits on eBay. ASOS had short leggings but they sold out before I could get them in my basket! I just bought some New Look petite leggings in a size large and they have done me ok up to now as they are very stretchy and high waisted. It's hard enough to get nice maternity clothes at the best of times without adding being petite into the bargain.

BeforeIChangeMyMind · 04/04/2015 00:57

I'm 5'0 and 31 weeks pg. This is what I'm wearing:

Next maternity jeans in sz 12 short length from Ebay
Leggings (maternity and non-maternity) with anything described as a 'tunic'
Loads of White Stuff clothes, esp anything made of jersey - they still fit

When I was still at work I had a pair of petite maternity trousers from Funmum: Good basic range of petites here
Often wear a not-maternity (stretchy) top over a standard maternity top (e.g. Red Herring Maternity at Debenhams), just for the length. As others have said, I am ALL out front so standard maternity tops are certainly needed.

I'm really pleased that I've managed to get this far without spending much at all, although I might need more if/when the warm weather comes. Good luck!

Chchchchanging · 04/04/2015 15:27

Topshop do a shorter leg at 30 but don't know of that would be enough? I'm 5'3...

SleeplessSabbatical · 04/04/2015 17:55

I'm a little taller at 5' 4" but always have issues as I have short legs! Top Shop have some great maternity jeans that are meant to be above the ankle on most, but work out to be just the right length on me. Also, some of the ASOS stuff is OK, but be prepared to order more and return some of it. Primark's basic T-shirts are great. They're super stretchy so, even though they're not maternity, they cover the bump nicely. Also Red Herring have some good options. I've given up on trying to get any more maternity trousers/jeans and am sticking to dresses (Fat Face have some good non-maternity options that fit well) with leggins and skirts (Red Herring have a great stretchy pencil skirt) as trying to find something that fits the bump and the leg length is almost impossible. Hope that helps?
