1st trimester tiredness with toddler

I'm pooped. 8+4 and even sleeping when he sleeps isn't really helping much. Reduced bf has definitely helped, but still feel pretty wiped out - mornings we get out, afternoons I can barely keep my eyes open. Anyone else? Is a second trimester burst of energy coming my way?

I was like that. A really tough time. I went to bed very early, napped every lunchtime and did some lazy parenting from the sofa (supervising painting, drawing etc). Also lots of soft play.

I was fine in second trimester (loads of energy. repainted rooms and all sorts) but have been shattered in trimester 3, even with two mornings a week with DD at the childminder. oof.

I found meeting friends helped too as they chase after DD when I can't. (bad SPD)

I'm 9 weeks today and still totally exhausted! I imagine with a toddler it is twice as hard. I have broken sleep every night and nap at least once a day then go to bed at 9... I'm looking forward to feeling better in 2nd trimester!!

I was absolutely knackered during my first trimester (and sickSad) and ds was around 10-12 months. We had to sleep train him at 11 months as I just couldn't cope with the night wakings. Things did get easier in the second trimester though, the sickness stopped and I found I had more patience and energy. It's getting tough again now I'm 25 weeks mainly because I'm getting bigger and ds is so heavy and lively.

I feel your pain. I'm 11 weeks pg with a 2yr old DS. Weeks 6-9 were the worst for me then it started to ease off slightly.
I'm still in bed by 9.30 most nights. Taking any opportunity I can for a break. DH is really good at taking him off my hands at the weekends and doing bath times etc. hoping it passes completely in a week or two as I remember feeling fine in my 2nd trimester last time.

Yes knackered.

Dh is trying to get home for bath time. I've been on the sofa since - he is a star.

Dd1 doesn't nap so we are watching telly in the afternoons while dd2 does.

If only I could sleep at night Hmm

It is hard but it gets much, much easier in the second trimester. I'm 41w now and finding it hard again, but really only the last few weeks.

I sat DD on my lap in front of the computer and she watched nursery rhymes and cbeebies on YouTube. I felt like a terrible parent, but she got plenty of cuddles that way, and she learnt to count and recognise some letters - result!

I can't sit on the computer chair any more so we're slobbing on the sofa in front of Netflix and cbeebies with occasional YouTube on my phone. She seems happy enough with a play group most mornings (when I'm up to it!).

I was wiped out for the whole of my second pregnancy and slept as much as possible, terrified that I wouldn't cope when number 2 arrived. The tiredness fog lifted immediately and I can honestly say toddler + newborn was 100 times better. Not the news you were hoping for I suspect but if you're still feeling tired in months to come it may offer a glimmer of hope!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 02/04/2015 20:23

Yep, it's tough. I'm 26+2 and have a 16 month old and have to say it hasn't got any easier Sad. She is an awful sleeper and only has a short nap in the day so can't even really sleep when she sleeps.

Thanks for all the replies

Will definitely take some tips from there, and knowing it could be easier when they're both here does help a lot. I kind of figured the first year would be something of a blur, will just extend that thought forward a bit

The thought of them having each other is a lovely one. God bless cbeebies till then Grin
