Has anyone bought a pregnancy pillow?

I really want one but I'm unsure if they're a waste of money.

I've seen a cheap one which is basically like a big long pillow.

I'm already 30+4 so not sure if it's worth it.

I bought one at about 25 weeks think it's called the Dream Genie (?!) From John Lewis, it cost about £45 and I used it for about a week! Don't get me wrong it's v comfy but I still felt the need to turn over several times in the night and trying to adjust the pillow to follow me was such a faff that I just chucked it in the cupboard and it's been there ever since. I thought I'd get more use out of it when I was further along but I'm 39 weeks now and I just use a normal pillow under bump and between knees, much easier. Shame really as it's £45 down the drain but maybe ill get some use when feeding.

I've been wondering whether to get one, at the moment I am only 20+4 but definitely struggling to find a comfy position when sleeping!

Might try your idea, Seaside and use a normal pillow to start with and see how I get along. Hopefully you get some more use out of yours soon so it doesn't feel like a waste!

I toss and turn in the night at lot and could not be arsed to faff with rearranging a pregnancy pillow.

A normal one does the job

I had two-a long one and a small wedge. I used them together and they saved my life! Well, my sanity at least. I'm not sure how much sleep I'd have got without them. The long one was useful while breastfeeding too.

Hellohellohowareyou · 31/03/2015 16:51

I have a long one which looks like 2/3 normal pillows seen together. I'm finding it great for my SPD however IT can be a pain shifting it around if I need to turn over in bed

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 31/03/2015 16:55

I've got a long pillow and can honestly say that at 41+1 weeks I wouldn't be getting any sleep without it. If I turn over I just pull the bottom of the pillow between my knees from behind so no dragging it round with me.

applecore0317 · 31/03/2015 16:57

I have a wedge pillow to sit under my bump, a normal pillow between my knees and a v shaped pillow that sits under my neck and down my back, thought that one would be handy for breast feeding. For me they have helped and worked out cheaper than buying the more specific ones

I had a dreamgenie, found it a waste of money.

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 31/03/2015 19:19

Just to throw in a different point of view - I'm in love with my dreamgenie! I'm 18+5 and have had it for about two weeks. It just seems to support my back, hips, boobs and (tiny, but growing!) bump in all the right places. I tried before with normal pillows, but they all slipped out of place during the night. I also love my dreamgenie for sitting up in bed. I put the small pillow in the small of my back and use the long pillow to support my neck and head. I've been off work with fatigue and dizziness for a week or so, so I've been spending a lot of time in bed, and the dreamgenie has really helped.

Tranquilitybaby · 31/03/2015 22:53

Yes a dream genii, fantastic pillow

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 31/03/2015 23:01

dream genii is useless if you are tall..cuts you in half.

MishMooshAndMogwai · 31/03/2015 23:22

I got a long one when pg with dd 4 years ago and have slept with it ever since! Enjoying it even more so now pg with dc2. Probanly wasn't expensive as ex Dp bought it for me but I'd absolutely recommend it!

aneesa28 · 01/04/2015 07:24

Try the Widgey 5-in-1 from TKMaxx, it has multiple uses beyond pregnancy.

Newquay · 01/04/2015 07:43

I had a long thin one with dc1 (third hand) and it was brilliant and then treated myself to the dream genii for dc2 but I didn't get on so well with it - I think due to the wedge bit. But I think you definitely need something. A thin nornal pillow seemed to work for me.

Allthatnonsense · 01/04/2015 08:07

I'm using a v shaped nursing pillow from Johnny Lewis. It's great. Wraps around my tum and between my knees. Also, I will use it for breast feeding. It was £25, nice and plump and hasn't flattened at all.

redlolly · 01/04/2015 08:19

I have a long thin one which is ok, but I find it more useful to prop me up comfortably when I want to sit up in bed than to use when sleeping. As pp have said it requires rearranging when you turn over and a normal pillow or two are less faff. Saying that, I have had a cold and cough recently and am sleeping sitting up and the long pilow has been brilliant for that.

The thing that has really made a difference to my sleep is a snoozle; it's basically a pregnancy slide sheet (I think any slide sheet would do the trick). I bought it online and I can now roll over in bed without waking up DH with all the contortions, and sometimes without waking myself up too! Has helped with my spd from about 14w (35w now). Good luck and hope you get some good sleeps! Smile

ClaireFraser · 01/04/2015 08:32

I have a V shaped pillow from Dunelm, was £10. It's brilliant, I sleep with the top of it under my bump (am 29wks) and the rest curves round so that it supports my top leg and goes between knees iyswim.

It's also brilliant for supporting me when I'm sitting up in bed and the pillowcases were £5 from Dunelm too.

I figured it was worth a shot to see if it worked as inexpensive, and if it didn't then I planned to use it for reading/feeding in bed, but have been pleasantly surprised with how well it's worked. Dunelm was the cheapest place for a good v pillow btw, had a look around before I bought it.

sianihedgehog · 01/04/2015 09:30

I've got a Sangol maternity pillow off Amazon, and I love it more than anything. It's a big sort of u shape, so I'm supported front and back when on my side.
