What car seat are you buying?

I am thoroughly enjoying doing baby product research and my latest focus is car seats.
Initially I was certain I want to buy the cybex sirona but now I'm set on the Britax Dualfix.
What is everyone else buying? Grin

The best thing to do is to go to somewhere like Halfords or Toys R Us (any shop that sells them with a carpark and ask advice for your car as some car seats don't fit all cars. They should be able to try them in the car for you.

I am personally going for the Britax Baby Safe Plus SHR. We will then buy a different one once the baby is too tall/heavy.

BumWad · 31/03/2015 13:17

I think we're going to go for the Maxi Cosi Pebble Plus. Mostly because it is inexpensive and it will fit the Uppababy vista which we are also planning on getting.

irishamy89 · 31/03/2015 13:20

I have decided against a removable infant car seat, hopefully it isn't a hindrance!
At least I can easily go and get one if needs must.

Maxi cosi cabriofix for us after it was a Which? recommended buy. I haven't got a buggy it is compatible with but wanted a removable car seat so if I'm carrying them in from the car and need to get something out of my bag/juggle something els I can at least put them down for two seconds. I'm hoping I won't regret not getting a buggy they can be attached to.

gallicgirl · 31/03/2015 13:56

I am lusting after the cybex sirona but currently being sensible with money and using the cybex Aton we bought for first baby.

Try the incar safety centre website for advice.

AnythingNotEverything · 31/03/2015 14:01

I already have a Dualfox for my DD (which I LOVE!) and new baby will most likely use her old cabriofix. I've heard lots of people say that their older children don't like the Sirona impact shield when used forward facing. If you're buying one for long term use it might be worth looking into that carefully.

Re: car seat in pram wheels - it's only really any good for short amounts of time anyway, and most babies will either stay asleep or go back to sleep quickly in a sling, so that's a good plan B.

BreeVDKamp · 31/03/2015 14:04

We've bought the maxi-cosi cabriofix! Seems huge but was cheaper than the pebble and once it's in the car I think it will look more normal sized. Fits on our Oystermax pushchair and had v g reviews so those were the main reasons.

irishamy89 · 31/03/2015 14:08

Anythingnoteverything - That's what turned me off buying the sirona.
Although I plan to have car seats rear facing I really do not like the impact shield!

I think we are going for the Maxi-Cosi Pebble Plus, I wanted one that meets the i-size regulations.

scarednoob · 31/03/2015 14:32

we've just bought a new car, so i think we'll just get the audi one, as at least i know it'll fit!

AnythingNotEverything · 31/03/2015 14:37

The seat manufacturers have a fit finder on their websites which show what seats fit.

Stinkylinky · 31/03/2015 14:46

We have got maxi cosi one that goes with the pram we bought - venicci mini silver.

I was umming and arring about weather to go for a travel system but decided that I needed a car seat that I could get in and out of the car quite easily as we only have 3 doors and the back seats are pretty deep.

mrswishywashy · 31/03/2015 14:50

I plan on getting the joie stages. It is rear facing for birth up to 18kgs and can also be used as a booster up to age seven. It's seat belt only install and is meant to be easy to install. Only £150 and looks nice and cosy with high impact sides. I dont mind it having it in and out of car on travel system. It's my favourite seat at the moment althiugh I'm only eight weeks so my mind could change.

aneesa28 · 31/03/2015 19:39

gallicgirl How did you find the Cybex Aton? I'm considering the Aton Q but worried that it will be too heavy to carry comfortably with baby in, considering that it is around 1kg heavier than the lighter car seats, e.g. Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix.

Lilydreams · 31/03/2015 19:43

Think we're decided on the Concord Air- after hours and hours of short listing and researching we had it down to 3 and all were pretty equal on price, safety, ability to isofix etc and so the lightness of the Air swung it as we won't have a travel system compatible pram for it so at least will be easy for me to carry where needed- across supermarket car park to trolley- into doc appointments etc.

NovemberRainbow · 31/03/2015 19:47

We have the Maxi cosi cabriofix for the first 6 months, then a Britax Dualfix.

irishamy89 · 31/03/2015 19:47

Lily - Looks great! Would you believe I didn't even come across that brand whilst doing my research looks ashamed Grin

We have a britax erf for my 1 year old and new bsby will go in the be-safe izi he had till he was about 11 months. After that it depends how big my son is a nearly 3 whether we get him s new seat or a second erf.

LostMySocks · 31/03/2015 20:30

Mrs wishy - we looked at the Jodie but then checked which. They had it as a don't buy. You might want to read report and make your own decision

pinkie87 · 31/03/2015 20:37

I really want the maxi cosi cabriofix but I don't think it fits with Britax pushchairs (I can't budge on the Britax affinity for several reasons!) so I'm a bit stumped.

HoppityVoosh · 31/03/2015 20:43

Going to get the britax dualfix, not sure whether to get an infant carrier also. Need to get an infant carrier, probably a maxi cosi, for my parents car so might borrow that.

Lilydreams · 31/03/2015 20:51

Irish- I would believe it as there are there many it's a right mine field! I was exhausted after researching!

MrsAnxiety1 · 31/03/2015 21:01

We've gone for the Cosatto Hold as it was part of the travel system we bought. I'm a bit concerned now that no one has mentioned it on here! Confused. We felt that it was from a reputable brand and met the safety standards etc. Our second choice would've been the Silver Cross Simplicity as that was small and nifty when we played with it in the shop, but I personally also liked the Maxi-Cosi one we saw.

irishamy89 · 31/03/2015 21:03

Hoppity - I'm also getting the dualfix and considering whether I need an infant carrier.
I think I will hold off buying one until we see if we really need it.
Both myself and dp will be together on most car journeys so I don't think there will really be a need.

Lostmysocks, I read the report my issue with which reports is that the testing is Different from the manufacturers testing and not necessarily better. They also I feel are paid by som of the bigger more expensive brands. Overall as long as a car seat fits in the car and is installed correctly the it will ne safe. You can have the most expensive seat in th world but if it's not installed correctly then it's not going to be safe. That said I've got many weeks to choose so will keep looking and testing which fits in our car. Car seats are a mine field.
