Hi all. I just noticed 12 week scan said placenta: low anterior.
Googled it ( this is my 3rd baby not had this before).

I'm due to fly tmrw to canary isles. The sonographer didn't mention the placenta or raise it as an issue. I asked my midwife who said if they thought it was a problem they'd have booked me for a 32 week scan. They haven't.

She said it may be a small bit covering the Cervix and to ring pregnancy advice line if I was worried.

I have a week hols booked tmrw - 1st in 8 years. Don't know what to do ??

A low lying placenta will usually move out of the way. I was one of the unlucky ones that didn't, and had some massive bleeds and had to deliver prematurely. I'd double check your insurer covers you for this as most only cover pregnancy without complications.

It's usually first spotted at the 20 week scan. If it's low at 20 weeks you'll get extra scans booked in then.

They don't judge if it is really low lying until 20 weeks I was told at my 12 week scan. I'd not worry.

I don't believe they judge it officially low lying until 20 week scan. Mine was noted same as yours at 12 week but no one officially mentioned it till 20 weeks xx

Thanks ladies. Spoke to midwife at the hospital and consultant also said it was fine. They said at 18 weeks most women's placentas are relatively low but it just means its at the front.

So relieved I can go on holiday!
