Should I get sent letters for appointments?

Basically I chased my gp referral for UCLH a couple of weeks ago.
I asked had I been allocated an appointment and they gave me a date.
This week I received a text from them confirming date, time and venue.
Is this now standard?

Hospital specific, many are trying to go paperless so that would explain it. Our hospital rings using an automated service to book appointments.

Oh thank you! I guessed it was just a sign of the times.
Funny getting a simple text to confirm but I guess they don't need to provide any more info than date, time and venue!

Uchl actually do do letters (they always print one out for me even when I make my next appointment in person) so I assume yours has been lost in the post. They also do send a text a week before your appointment which is very helpful!

As the pp says-uclh do send letters but they'll always send them second class so it's not uncommon ime to get a text before you get a letter of they've sent the letter out late. The text is great though when you have baby brain, don't have the letter with you, and can't remember what time you're meant to be there

I get text sometimes letters as well. They're handy as the have the option of "reply NO if you no longer want this appointment"

Pretty standard for me & my hospitals (QA, Fareham Community and Southampton)
