I am 16 weeks pregnant and have been suffering from thrush since very early on in my pregnancy. I was prescribed canteston cream from my midwife but it seems to just go and come straight back. My midwife says I'm still too early to have a pessary so I'm wondering if anyone has an natural remedies that will help. Thanks everyone

I would try eating less sugar, taking a probiotic supplement twice a day and swilling the nether regions with Apple cider vinegar. Good luck! Also, as far as I know there is no gestation where a pessary becomes more or less safe. I would insert it with your finger but tbh there is very little chance you could damage the cervix as it is well away from the vaginal opening.

Hi, not that you should disregard the advice of your midwife, but I have suffered with thrush on and off from 7weeks, and had it a lot between 8 and 10 when I was on antibiotics for a UTI.
Both midwife and GP said that the pessary was fine, just advised me NOT to use the applicator.
Pessary clears it up far more effectively than the cream. Maybe ask your GP?

Same as boa I had reoccurring thrush in my first pregnancy (first at about 13 weeks by 17 weeks I was so fed up my Dr prescribed the pessary but advised I didn't use the applicator.

This cleared it up (although I did get it again later in pregnancy)

I also found that cotton knickers were much more comfortable and made sure I only washed with cool water down below.

Hope you feel better soon, perhaps book an appointment with your GP.

I think maternity leggings have a lot to answer for!

You end up living in them when you're pregnant, because they're comfy and cheap, but they're tight and not 100% cotton, so they create an ideal environment for thrush. Especially if you're sitting down all day.

I'd try long skirts & cotton knickers, might help.

You would be better off with a 6-7 day course of pessaries which is recommended in pregnancy rather than the one off dose. Ask GP for this as in my experience they don't always know this! I had thrush 4 times when pregnant and the week of pessaries finally cleared it.

Hi Rachel I used to get it a lot and found that the cream and pessaries don't work alone, I had to use canesten duo with the tablet you swallow which always got rid of it. Not sure if you can take it whilst you're pregnant though.
