Not buying a cot?

I'm planning to have baby in a co sleeper cot next to the bed at night and OH is really keen on co sleeping even after baby is older and outgrown the co sleeper. For daytime naps I'm planning to use either pram carrycot (if suitable), Moses basket or bouncy chair. Is there really any point in buying a cot that isn't going to get used? Or would it be best to have one just in case we need it?

First baby so I'm a bit unsure on the best thing to do!

You could borrow/buy a decent travel cot (unless a co-sleeper thingy folds up easily for travel) which you could use downstairs for naps/as a playpen when they are a bit older/and for visiting other people. Some come with a changing mat that sits on top which is handy.

Due to SIDS most pram carrycots say that they aren't suitable to be used as a cot and only last about 3 months anyway before they are outgrown.

To be honest, you can lay your hands on a cot very quickly unless you are looking for something bespoke and rather elaborate. See pics attached and google "bespoke cots" for a giggle Grin Take it as it comes. Some kids are bombproof great at co-sleeping, others are a frickin' nightmare unless they are in a dark room by themselves

What will you use for daytime naps after the baby outgrows the Moses/pram carrycot etc?

If you don't think you want one, don't get one. The shops don't close on your due date. If co sleeping isn't working, you will be able to get one then!

We have never co slept as such but I've often put kids down for naps in my bed btw.

Sounds fine. We have put ours down to nap in our bed in the day since around 8 months, it's where ds2 (3) still naps. Before that we used pram, sheepskin on floor in living room, or folded blanket.

We've got a cotbed for upstairs and a travel cot for downstairs. We're having twins so need to consider buying two of everything so have very much gone for things that will last for years/have more than one purpose like the travel cot. Plus the thought of trying to for two Moses baskets/carry cots in the car just to go and visit family had us looking at needing a much bigger car!

Hopefully they will get on well enough to share for a while.

It's it difficult to pick one up when/if you do need it, so don't feel that you should get one now.

And on bespoke cots, we have one - a second hand beautiful £700 job from eBay for £70 Smile It belonged to a family along the road from us whose 2 year old had outgrown it and they even brought it to us!

You could always look at getting a cot bed, it will last quite a while so would still be useful when the baby is older and sleeping in there own room.
If you have storage space and can get a good one second hand then you could keep hold as a just in case.
My little one has just turned 5 and will be moving into a single bed soon so the cot sides can be put back on and used for number 2
