Did you have an ELCS with your first baby?

Did you have an elective cesarean with your first baby? If so, what were your reasons? I've seen someone on mumsnet describe having an ELCS as 'a rude awakening for the baby'. Would you agree?

hmm - i had one because ds was breech and we were high risk after years of infertility. I wanted my baby out safely as it was probably my only chance at motherhood.
If he hadn't have been breech I wouldn't have done it.
I think it caused breast feeding issues but I don't think it caused any ill effects from ' a rude awakening' the actual op and recovery was a doddle.

I do believe a natural birth is probably better for baby and women who have elc because the are 'scared' etc are a bit selfish - but each to their own but tbh I don't really case how the baby comes out as long as it's safe and healthy.
being a mum is so much more than the day you gave birth

I had an EMCS with my first under a GA (Eclampisa, seizures in labour)

I had no issue with breastfeeding, although did spend a week in ITU (Eclampsia reasons not C-section)

I had an ELCS with DD under a spinal, was absolutely fine and again breastfed.

DC3 due July and I am booked in for an ELCS under a GA.

Yep, had one in December due to the baby being breech from 20 weeks, opted not to try and turn her or have a breech vb.

Yep, bit of a rude awakening although she was fine and had a good apgar score. She was quite mucous-y initially from a breathing pov, and sleepy. It probably contributed to our breastfeeding issues, but there were other factors at play.

I did, because I had triplets - so slightly unusual reason obvs and natural birth (is that the right term even?) wasn't really a viable option. I was never keen on having whole people exit via the foof so when was made clear section was best way, I was quite relieved. I found it pretty good overall apart from gas/pooing probs in first fortnight after.

As for it being a rude awakening for the baby, I can't imagine any birth is particularly stress-free for babies, what with the whole transition from watery lovely balloon to massive airy hellhole side of it. Don't really see how it's useful to evaluate birth methods in terms of babies' experience - to me more important not to have a traumatised mummy, in better shape to do the mummying!
