Pelvic Girdle Pain

I'm experiencing increasing pelvic girdle pain now at approximately 10 weeks- early I know, with my last pregnancy I had significant SPD from around 20 weeks.

Looking back, the physio I saw during my last pregnancy had little experience of PGP and the most useful thing he did was to give me a support belt.

I'm seeing my MW next week and will ask to be referred to an experienced physio, is there anything anyone would recommend that would help? Thank you for any advice, the thought of having to go through similar pain as my previous pregnancy from this early stage is making me feel quite low.

Ask for a referal to a women's health physio. They should have experience with PGP and spd. Fwiw my midwife didn't know much about the condition and I think if I'd gone through her it might have taken longer to get to see the right person. I just self referred to the physio dept. most areas offer this- speak to your gp receptionist to find out who to call.

I have this, I am 20 weeks with my first, have had days of walking like John Wayne since end trimester, but it has gotten majorly worse this last week ap- saw the GP on Friday. She was most unsympathetic, said my bump is not big yet, and I have a long way with the pregnancy to go ( I know!) so I had better just get used to it

I live alone, up 2 flights of stairs, Central London so friends an hours distance away, those that still live here, nearest family 100 miles away -I cannot become disabled! I have literally no one to help ( split with husband)

I explained this to her, and she was really uninterested - had to beg for a referral to a physio, not confident that I will even get an appointment ( my GP is on long term sick, so different locus each time, support stff in surgery change weekly, and have not chased other referrals). They don't do self referral where I am, so just need to keep chasing .

I realise what I can do is help myself - I have so much info from mumsnet thank the Lord.

I have bought a support belt, and it does bring relief even at this stage. Googled exercises to do, how to sit, stand, lie. Even if I see a physio -will they be knowledgable and be able to help me, or will I get more info online?

I am willing to pay to see someone if it gets to that stage -I need to keep mobile!

ThreeTimes, having had (and having now got again) PGP, I highly recommend finding a pregnancy pilates class. If run by a physio, so much the better. If not, then just try and get one that isn't a 'I've been full on exercising all my life and just because i'm pregnant i don't want to stop', but rather one that will focus on the issues that are relevant to pregnancy. it really helps, i promise!

Seeing an osteopath and daily stretching of the hamstring / thigh muscles - as they have to support said pelvis - also doing less heavy lifting / carrying.

I had severe pgp in my last pregnancy. My gp referred me for physio but it took ages to get an appt and then it was a pne off group session dishing out support belts. I had osteopathy and acupuncture weekly then fortnightly for the last 3 months of my pg. Plus I took paracetamol regularly to manage the pain. This regime worked well but it was bloody expensive. Midwife was rubbish - said I had sciatica and wasn't really interested. Gp was helpful but ultimately had very little to offer.
