when should I start feeling kicks?

I'm 20 weeks pregnant with dc2 but still not felt kicks. I was late feeling them with dc1 as well, but I had thought with dc2 I'd have felt them by now?

I have a scan in a week, so happy to wait until then if this is 'normal' and even if something was wrong, I don't think there's anything medical could be done anyway? I hear people talking about movement much earlier than this, not sure if they're super sensitive or I'm unlucky with position of baby or something.

I'm 19+6 and had my '20 week' scan today. All was fine with the scan so I queried why I hadn't felt anything yet and they told me my placenta was at the front (anterior) which means it acts as a cushion between you and the baby so normal to feel the kicks a bit later than if the placenta was at the back (posterior). Maybe you have a front placenta too?

Ah that's interesting balancing! Does that have any implications for birth?

I had my 16 week midwife appointment yesterday and she said it can take up to 24 weeks to feel movement. Hope that helps with the worrying! X

I wouldn't worry. I had my 20 week scan on Weds - all is well - and can't really feel them much although she squirmed a lot at the scan itself! This is my second and you can't help but compare with your previous experience. I am sure the first kicked more and earlier but am probably just remembering her at 38 weeks!

I also didn't feel anything until about 22 weeks with an anterior placenta. Didn't affect the birth at all.

Having an anterior OR a posterior placenta is considered normal - it just depends where it decides to attach itself. My placenta is 'upper anterior' - which (they told me) is a good position. A lower placenta means extra scans as they won't want it too slip too low - this can have implications for the birth. Placenta praevia where it is so low that it is close to or covering the cervix is more complicated. I think they closely monitor this to keep an eye on it as it causes bleeding and usually means a c-section but I don't really know much about it... A low-lying placenta at the 20 week scan can 'move' though as the uterus expands and the placenta gets moved up. Hope that helps.

I'm 23 weeks and only just started feeling them now. I discovered at 20 week scan that my placenta is anterior so this is why. Perhaps the same for you. Smile

Thanks all, maybe I have an anterior placenta then! Good to hear I'm not the only one without kicks at this stage.

Anterior placenta here, didn't properly feel dc1 until 22wks ish. Felt dc2 at about 11 weeks.
