I've just been at a baby group and then for a coffee with some of the other mothers. I overheard a woman I hadn't met before saying that her son has slapped cheek. I left pretty quickly after that, and I just looked it up and I feel sick with worry now that I will contract it. I didn't get too close to the boy (before I knew) and neither did ds, and he certainly didn't cough on me. I'm 14 weeks pg. Just left a message for my midwife but I don't think she's working today. I feel so worried and am not sure what I should do.
I've spoken to my dm and she said I've never had slapped cheek myself.
Thanks in advance.

Don't panic. Firstly, 20-30% of cases of slapped cheek show no symptoms so you could have had it but your mum didn't realise. Second, the risk of anything happening to the baby is small. Third, get into the doctors, get an emergency appontment. I'm not saying it's an emergency but you're obviously worried and it does need checking. They can perform a blood test to check for antibodies. If you test positive, they can scan you through the rest of your pregnancy.

Try not to panic. I was exposed to slapped cheek at 14 weeks and my DM also said id never had it. My hospital tested my booking in bloods (which they keep) and it turns out I was immune. The midwife said most people are and often won't have realised they've had it. Even if you're not and you do contract it they will monitor the baby for signs of anaemia- my midwife says that's the main risk of contracting it and they can even give blood transfusions in utero in the worst case scenario.

Thank you both. I've just called the doctor and all they can offer me is a phone appt. In a couple of hours so hopefully they should be able to help. I just feel so worried about it and sick.

Hopefully you get sorted soon. It's scary when it feels like your health is out of your control but try not to worry BrewFlowers

Thanks all. I've just had a blood test done at the hospital and now I have to wait 7-9 days for the results. Thunderbolt - I was hoping that. Everyone seemed fine with him being there so I really hope he wasn't contagious anymore.

I don't really know how worried to be. Thank you for the responses - much appreciated.

Just thought I'd update this in case it's useful for anyone later. I had the blood test to check my immunity and it turns out that I'm not immune, so then I had to wait until 4 weeks after I'd potentially been exposed to slapped cheek (parvo virus) and have another blood test to see whether I had caught it. I've just had the results of that and it was negative, so all fine. ?
I fee like I still need to be a bit careful though as I'm not immune, but I'm 19 weeks now so nearly out of the danger zone. I hadn't even heard of it in my first pregnancy!
