piles and birth (tmi sorry)

Hi all I'm new so sorry about the gross first post and TMI but I'm at my wits end.

I'm 32 weeks pregnant and have been suffering with severe piles. A few weeks ago one thrombosed and I had to take a few days leave from work due to the pain. On Monday a friend joined it! Worst agony ever.

Today I got a little lie in because I had a mw appointment. I felt a bit wet "down there" so got out of bed and there was blood everywhere! After initially freaking out I realised it was my bum and not the baby. Stuck a sanitary pad on and went to see mw. She took one look and said not to leave the surgery until I had seen the gp.

An hour later i got seen. The gp said they are very large and angry and this is likely to carry on throughout pregnancy and I'm probably going to need to them banded at the end. She also said that birth can make them a million times worse and they may even all pop and I might end up suffering badly. I'm now terrified and thinking of asking for a cs. Does this seem a bit dramatic?

I'm on my 3rd pad of the day and in so much pain so any advice would be much appreciated. Dr gave me anusol hc and lactose to be getting on with. Not looking forward to explaining why I needed the day off to my male boss tomorrow!

Thanks in advance!

Oh you poor thing ! That sounds terrible, I really feel for you. I had terrible piles, really painful so I couldn't sit down but not as bad as yours.

No advice really other than the diet stuff the doctor tells you and anusol ( make sure you're putting it up your bum not just in the outside ?) Mine took three weeks to clear but yours sound worse.

Nothing but sympathy here !

Have you taken paracetamol ?

snarferson · 19/03/2015 19:55

Thanks pretty. Ooo i hope yours improve! I really don't think people understand what they are like to live with unless they've had them. Yep I've taken paracetamol. I can't take codeine as it makes me sick so there isn't anything else I can have she said.

Oh op I am so so sorry.
Bad piles here at 38 weeks and have spent last weekend in tears. Mine haven't burst or anything so sending you tons of sympathy. They are more evil than the devil and i have to say they are the most painful thing I've ever had.

I got a thrombosed one about two weeks ago. Tht finally calmed and I got another load, last week although thankfully not thrombosed but bigger.

I'm trying to lie down as much as possible and taking daily movicol. I've got prescription proctesydl ( which has shrunk the original thrombosed one and im hoping will shrink the second appearance. )
As due date nears im praying I don't get anymore as no idea how I'll get a baby out.

I was so worried in my last pregnancy about them that I was referred to a consultant however they refused to give me a c see because of them. As it turned out I got rid of them prior to labour.
I got them bad afterwards but within about 2-3 weeks they had calmed down and in hind sight im glad I didn't have a c sec.

However- I have them now and purely from weight of the baby. Petrified of labour with them but mw has said there is nothing that can be done and try will get better afterwards. Not much reassurance is it!!

The state of my backside is horrendous but I'm trying to stay positive and concentrate on baby. They can be seen to afterwards.

I hope they calm down for you. Worth asking about a c sec if u want one but don't get your hopes up as I wasn't allowed one and even when I ring the labour ward at the weekend in a state they also said woukfnt induce me early either!

Oh you poor thing! I cant believe they are leaving you suffering like that! I'm glad I'm not alone (though not glad there are others suffering like this if that makes sense).

I wasn't bothered about giving birth until this but I'm so scared now. If this would have happened at work in don't know what I would have done!

I am trying to focus on the baby. She seems happy and healthy at least Smile

That's the main thing. We will get through it- somehow!!!

Hopefully things will improve for the both of us. Yes they will get worse during labour but then they will improve but with an amazing newbirn to cuddle it will be manageable and worth it.

Good luck with it all!!! Smile

Try and drink loads of water and have a hot lemon water when you wake up.
Also fyogel is good an orange drink with fibre in to get you going.
Put a cold flannel with ice cubes in between your bum cheeks at night to settle them down a bit!
Hope they get better, I know how bad this can be. Xx

Really really feel for you having suffered thrombosed ones myself. The pain is awful. I am 12 weeks with my third and dreading getting them again. Just wanted to wish you luck.

New30 · 20/03/2015 09:09

Hi. I have them really bad, and had them pre pregnancy too. I had banding but it didn't work and my consultant told me that the only option was surgery and to delay this until after baby as we were ttc at time.
I'm in my second trimester now and a c section may be on the cards for this reason plus some anxiety issues. I bleed a lot every day as it is so can't imagine what the bleeding would be like during and after natural labour.

snarferson · 23/03/2015 21:24

Thanks all for the sympathy and advice! Bleeding has practically stopped now and pain reduced massively!! Maybe it was a blessing in disguise!! Hope you all find some relief soon xx
