Baby bouncer or rocker?

Getting more and more befuddled by the sheer variety of rockers/bouncers/swings available. Is one type better than the other? I've heard that a swing is not such a good idea in case your baby gets too accustomed to be rocked to sleep. Can you tell me your preference and why? Any specific recommendations would be great too!

I bought the cheapest one they had in Mothercare on the basis that if I needed one with bells and whistles I could get one pretty quickly.

The £15, fabric round a coat hanger one was absolutely fine.

Some people swear by a £100+ Bjorn one.

The Baby Bjorn one is great, we were lent one luckily. We bought a cheapie one too, but it was actually dangerous to use Confused.

I swore by the m+p swing for DD. Was pricey but completely worth it in my eyes. Could you borrow a couple off friends if possible to see what fits best for all of you?

We have a newborn to toddler rocker by fisher price. It's fab- and DD still loves sitting in it at 15 months. Supposed to be a toddler seat up to 18kg so still got a lot of life left in it. Was about £45 or so quid but imo well worth it as its already had 15 months of use and Prob another 15 months left.

DS loves his babybjorn bouncer. It's so handy to just pop him in when I need to get washing in etc. we got ours off eBay for £20 & the cover is machine washable which is a must.

babybjörn here as well, big hit, as the baby can control the movement himself. And it's very portable.

I wouldn't worry too much about the "baby getting used to it" "rod for your own back" stuff that gets spouted - if your baby can get used to one method of getting to sleep, then they can get used to another!

I had the tesco baby bouncer which was about £15, but that's because I'm a bit cheap Grin it lasted about 6 months until he was strong enough to throw himself forward, but by that point he was crawling and didn't want to be confined anywhere anyway. It was great for putting him in while I was sewing/hanging up washing/eating etc

Thanks for your replies. I do like the Fisher Price rainforest one so will probably go for that. But then there is still the choice of rocker, bouncer or baby to toddler, agh!
