Hi

I've just been diagnoses with gestational diabetes and have been monitoring my blood sugars four times a day. Generally during the day my blood sugars are fine but my fasting blood sugars are always slightly above range. Usually about 5.8 (should be below 5.5). In the evenings I usually have some protein like salmon, veg and the equivalent of about 2 new potatoes if that. So very low carbs. I am checking my levels about 10 hours after fasting as well (ie finish dinner at 9pm and test at about 7am)
My blood sugars 1 hour after eating range between 4-7 so well within range.

I was wondering, am I likely to need meds with this?
At what levels were people put on medication?
Have people got any tips on trying to reduce my fasting blood sugars?
What are other peoples readings who are on medication and not on medication?

Thanks

Hiya, I had very similar readings with a similarly healthy diet and was put on metformin - the principle being that your body isn't producing enough insulin at night but is fine during the day so needs a little help.

thanks for your reply.
I did find that the day I had chocolate pudding and ice-cream for dessert following dinner my fasting sugar was the lowest it has been 4.1.

Part of me is wondering whether I'm not eating enough carbs?!?!
