painful hips at 17weeks who do i need to see? (midwife useless!)

evening!

I do understand hip and back pain is a common part of pregnancy, and I'm trying not to moan too much! I've had sore/achy hips since nine weeks and now at 17 weeks its interfering with sleep, its esp painful during/after work as i am on my feet all day.

I also suffered from hip hip dysplasia and irritable hips when i was younger I'm not too sure if this matters.

I had my 16 week appointment today with the midwife I explained the above alongside being itchy all over. The midwife told me its a common part of pregnancy and theres nothing she can do (understandably) but I'm worried it'll get worse as the pregnancy progresses and I don't want to take early leave from work.

To be honest I haven't found the midwife care all to great this is my second baby after losing the first, I'm struggling to bond this time round and I'm finding it stressful/ anxious the midwife just seemed to want to tick boxes and told me if i need anything to book a doctors appointment.

Help!

Any suggestions?

Ohh just to add its getting worse with getting up and down stairs I've took to shuffling on my butt at home. At work I sometimes just give up trying to get my legs to lift. Ugh. Really don't know what i can do!

Self refer to physio, check maternity notes/list of useful numbers to see if there's maternity physio. If can't do that go through gp.

Try a pillow between legs when in bed
At work take lift up and down.
You can take paracetamol in pregnancy safely.
No high impact activities (don't have both feet of ground at same time)
And sit down to put underwear/trousers/tights/socks/shoes on.

Someone will hopefully come along with more useful advice.

But I have terrible lower back pain/spd. Agony, makes me wanna cry. Pain killers do help though.

Hope you start feeling better soon Flowers

Oh and as for midwife. Ask for a different one if you feel she's unsympathetic

Sounds like spd. get a referral ASAP for physio through either gp or midwife ( can you ring hospital and speak with community mw?)

I'm afraid it will most likely get worse do you need to get ontop of it ASAP.

Limit walking/ stairs etc. Rest if you can and try not to do movements where your knees come apart.

You may have to be forceful in demanding one but it'll be worh it!

thank you ladies! I'm going to give the gp a phone tomorrow (apparently i missed the appointments today i didnt phone between 8 and half past as the phone lines are busy) if not i'll give the hospital a phone.

By the way the midwife was talking I thought I'd just have to get on with it. :(

Make sure a physio referral is to a women's health / gynae physio. I had quite bad PGP in pregnancy and wasted a lot of time after GP referred me to a general physio who knew next to nothing about it. Meanwhile, this info might help. Good luck to you!

I found the osteopath was the best course of action for me - but it will cost you.
