Solution/excuse for not drinking

I'm not pregnant (in fact we've completed our family), but I am on strong painkillers and cannot drink, and it made me think of those early weeks in pregnancy when I wished I had a good excuse for not drinking as a didn't want to share my pregnancy news until I was past the 12 weeks.

Anyway, I though this info may be of use to someone. The medicine is naproxen. It's prescribed. It's a strong painkiller/anti-inflammatory/NSAID. You could look up what it's prescribed for and pick something believeable (it can be prescribed for period pain).

Hope this is of some use to someone.

Ps I was told not to drink ANY alcohol with this medicine as it can cause stomach bleeding!

Great tip, I am coming to the end of my non drinking excuses (10+2 today) but would have loved to have known about this a few weeks ago!

I just always said "Yeah it's really crap isn't it? You know I love a drink but I'm really trying to lose weight and really notice the pounds coming off easier when I don't drink."

Brilliant idea. Sadly my work knows I cannot take NSAIDS as I have ulcerative collitis. If anyone else can think of a fool proof excuse please let me know, as I have a big works night out in May and I am only 5 weeks and don't want to tell them till after my first scan.

Nhs website says no known interactions between naproxen and alcohol (you got me worried as my mum takes it and still drinks alcohol). It is a non-steroidal anti inflammatory so it contains aspirin and you'll only be at risk of bleeding if you're sensitive to aspirin or at increased risk of bleeding due to some other reason.

Maybe find another reason if you're preggo and not admitting it. I found telling people we were going through fertility treatment (the truth in fact) generally shut them up mighty quick with no further questions as they suddenly felt very awkward. Made it very easy to continue to nit drink when I finally fell pregnant

I take naproxen and never been told you can't drink on it. From the nhs website: '
there are no known interactions between alcohol and Naproxen'

The antibiotic metronidazole is one that you really shouldn't drink on. Tends to result in horrible vomiting. Usually given for tooth related issues like abscesses etc.

Metronidazole. It's the antibiotic that you absolutely cannot drink a single drop on.

I was prescribed it in combination with cefalexin for a really nasty post-partum infection but it is widely prescribed by dentists. Tell everyone that you are on metronidazole for a dental abscess and even the resident know-it-all won't be able to query it.
