Newly pregnant with no.2 and not told anyone. I'm at a hen weekend with assault course, hot tub and all the usual food and drink.
I've done the assault course and dived into shockingly cold water - my hands went numb...
Avoided the hot tub.
Had a couple of sips of champagne.
Ate goats cheese.
Avoided runny cheese/ blue cheese.
Drank decaff tea.
Ate loads of chocolate cake.

Which bits matter?
Thanks

Chocolate cake very important - daily levels must be kept up in pregnancy ??

MissTwister · 15/03/2015 08:51

The only thing I would say is you're not meant to eat goats cheese unless its a hard one - but I wouldn't worry too much as a one off. You've done well!

MissTwister · 15/03/2015 08:52

Blue cheese is also okay if a hard cheese like Stilton

SavoyCabbage · 15/03/2015 08:53

According to my Miriam Stoppard book, when pregnant you should avoid 'fish from poisonous waters'.

scatterbrainedlass · 15/03/2015 08:53

Some goats cheese (especially soft cheese) may be made with unpasteurised milk, so you need to be a bit wary there. Otherwise you have managed well, especially if you're feeling fit enough to manage an assault course and lots of food!!

savoy Grin
on the whole I would say well done OP

Wow, your baby is going to be born in army combats doing acrobatics from the delivery room rafters at this rate, v impressed!! Only the goats cheese is a potential problem, and even then, you'd be so unlucky - whilst we all stick to the advice, when was the last time you met anyone who'd become sick from eating it?! Enjoy the rest of the hen do! X

thesmallbear · 15/03/2015 14:35

It's ok to eat goats cheese if it's cooked. I have it on pizza. Those pizza ovens are pretty damn hot!

gaggiagirl · 15/03/2015 14:38

I was told that I couldn't have pate, even vegetarian pate. Why! Why!????.

thesmallbear · 15/03/2015 14:40

Here's the NHS website where it says cooked goats cheese is ok.

EffinIneffable · 15/03/2015 17:34

The pate is because of listeria risk, true for both meat and veg. It's not a massive risk, but your immune system is underpowered in pregnancy so you're more likely to get it when someone else wouldn't. It's also a disease that can cross the placenta so can harm baby, unlike, say, salmonella.

Thank you all! Home now and exhausted!

There's something (can't remember what) that there's high levels of in pate that can cause defects. I wa eating pate a few times a week before I found out I was expecting at 7 weeks. I haven't ha any since though so fingers crossed Confused

Impatientwino · 15/03/2015 18:40

Pate contains offal which has high levels of vitamin A which can be very damaging to a baby.

That's why no liver allowed in pregnancy either.

Impatientwino · 15/03/2015 18:41

That should read meat pate!

Impatientwino · 15/03/2015 18:42

Sorry onion chutney crossed posts with you, didn't mean to freak you out or anything. I'm sure it's fine.

Iloveonionchutney · 15/03/2015 19:31

It's ok it was too late by the time I realised, already had a scan and all looked good, not much point worrying about it what's done is done!
