High blood pressure and labetalol

Hello, I am 28 + 6. My BP was found to be high at a routine midwife appointment on Wednesday so I was sent to the Day Assessment Unit for monitoring and given labetalol 200mg to take twice per day. The baby is measuring a bit small for dates: head on 50th centile but tummy on 5th centile. My urine and bloods are fine and the baby seems to be ok and very active. It looks like I will have to go to the DAU for monitoring twice per week. They are a bit concerned as my mum had pre-eclampsia with me that developed around 35 weeks.

I wondered if anyone else has experienced this and if you ended up developing pre-eclampsia?

Hi your experience is similar to mine. I had high BP from week 31 with DC1, I was put on labetalol and monitored on the DAU every other day until I agreed to induction at 39 weeks. During that time I had occasional traces of protein in my urine, bloods always clear but the dose of labetalol was increased to the max by the end as my BP kept climbing, I also had the steroid injections as they wanted to deliver me a lot earlier.

Its probably not what you want to hear but yes I did develop pre-eclampsia but not until I was in labour and then I had some residual issues with BP for several weeks after the birth. DS was born under the 5th percentile, he had some minor issues at the time maintaining his blood sugars but is now perfectly healthy.

Hope my experience helps you a bit, it was scary at the time as the HCPs would rather have delivered me earlier (by CS) to be on the safe side but I'm stubborn.

I was off work with high bp from 28-30 weeks and then on labelotol from about 36 weeks. I gave birth at almost 42 weeks and no pre-eclampsia. Bp came down a few weeks after the birth, and I was given another bp drug until it did.

The one slightly odd thing was that my bp rocketed after the birth, which had the hospital very worried, but it was just one of those things.

Thanks both. It is interesting to hear other people's experiences and reassuring that you and your DC are fine. I expect the third trimester is going to be more stressful than the previous two.
