No car in London - getting to hospital and back???

Would be great if you had some advice on this - we live in Kennington, and will need to get to St Thomas'... without a car. Are taxis generally willing to take a mum-to-be going into labour??

Also, what do you think about getting back home again in the bus? Is this feasible? And what is the ruling on having a car-seat for our baby for taxi rides? Do you definitely need one? We have heard conflicting stories on this front.

Thanks,
Wx

Hmm, maybe that will get the B+Q people some more business, then ;-)

If it was a 10-15 minute walk, you could get your DP/DH to walk the baby home, while you took a taxi, if you were poorly.

But it's nice to be all home together. If you don't intend to use it much at all, buying the cheapest possible car seat, or sourcing one second-hand, if you can get it via a friend or whatever (so you know it's not been in a crash), would be wise.

MiniMeyerMum - when are you due, and would you like me to see if I can borrow a car seat for you to get your baby home in? I am very close one way or another!

I wouldn't go on the bus - you might end up with quite a lot of stuff, what with your labour and post-natal stuff, and a baby, and you really really shouldn't be carrying anything on and off buses straight after giving birth!
