36 week clinic appointment -- breech baby -- what next?

Hello,
I have my 36 week appointment today and think (well am sure) my baby is still breech. Are they likely to book me in for a caesarean at this appointment because of the baby's position? Am I obliged to say yes (and is it bad if I refuse? I still think there's a lot of time for her to turn).
Thanks.

I had my 36 wk app and though baby was still breech but he had turned so you might be in luck!
They will refer you for a scan and consultant app. You are then given the option to try and have baby turned via ECV procedure , and if that doesn't work you may opt to deliver breech or c sec I think. ( from what MW told me when mine was breech)
I think it's your choice and are within your rights to wait until labour starts to see if baby turns but the scan will often tell whether there is a reason ie short cord etc.
There's still hope!
I took pulsatilla tablets as they are supposed to work ( homeopathic remedy) so maybe that's what turned mine- I was willing to give anything a go to avoid a c sec!
Good luck!

I had a breech baby and an ELCS. Whether they can offer ECV depends on the kind of breech ie how the legs are tucked in. Extended or frank breech means legs straight out and they can't easily be turned as there's danger of hip displacement to baby and injury to mum. Other types of breech (legs crossed by the bum types) are easier to turn. Ultrasound will tell them what kind.

Mine was extended so I didn't even bother with ECV, and have never regretted the ELCS. I reckon it's the most painless birth I could have had.

(They do scan you the day before the ELCS to see if it's still needed, so if you agree and she turns, then you obv don't have to go through it if you don't want to)

What they said.

I had a breech oblique / transverse baby. He kept turning. Had scans once a week from 35 to 39wks. Was admitted to hospital 39&4 because he had turned transverse with the cord and foot presenting.

The next day consultant agreed to get me on c section list as baby was so active (she did originally want to just keep me in until I went into labour, reviewing it after 5 days if not in labour but I didn't want the wait). Baby was head down the next day sothe consultant broke my water I thetheatre and I had normal vaginal delivery

so: there is time for baby to pee but likelihood is that a close eye will be kept on you. Speak to your midwife or obs consultant and ask their advice.

I was initially happy with the c section agreed as it was a certainty and although I wasn't keen on the recovery I knew i wanted whatever was best for the baby.

Baby to pee? Baby to turn!

Hi

I had a breech baby all the way through pregnancy and when they did 36 week check had a scan and there wasn't enough fluid for ECV so was booked in for section then. Section date was 5 days before due date to reduce risk of natural labour x

Ah misty - so even if you wanted one they might not let you?

I was told once scheduled for c section that if baby was head down they wouldn't do the section as there would be no reason, natural birth would be likely to happen. As it was the baby did go head down the evening before and was still head down when they scanned the morning of section. I wasn't left to goto labour naturally because he was moving around so much so my waters were broken for me.

Sorry for multiple posts - I wasn't a good candidate in the end for an ECV because the baby moved so much. There was enough (too mucj) fluid for him to be moved but it was likely he would just move back to transverse or breech again.

One of the ladies at my pregnancy yoga class was transverse . The yoga teacher told her to light a torch and put a hot water bottle on the lower part of her tummy (apparently the baby is supposed to go towards the light, and likes the warmth. The next session, the baby had turned. Not sure there is any science to that one, but worth a try. Good luck!
