Rhesus negative

Hi all, just having a bit of a worry about being rhesus negative.

I'm pregnant with DC2 and I know from last time that I'm rhesus negative. I remember being given the Anti-D injection during my pregnancy with DC1.

But I don't recall being given the Anti-D after delivery or the few days after that. It's nearly 4 and a half years ago, so it may simply be that I don't remember (wasn't exactly with it after 24 hours of labour!!). I also don't know my DC1's blood group. So it may be that they tested it and she was also negative so I didn't need it.

But as I don't know either of these things, I'm now worried that with this second pregnancy I may have developed antibodies already, that could be doing harm to the baby (I'm 11 weeks).

I think.... that the booking appointment blood tests were meant to cover checking for anti-bodies, or do they not check until later in the pregnancy? I had my booking appointment 2 weeks ago and haven't had a call to say any problems found.

Sorry a bit rambling, but just want to know what risks to DC2 are if DC1 is Rh positive, and I didn't have the post-delivery Anti-D...

Thanks for any advice!

I'm RH neg and currently pregnant with DD2. I do remember being given anti d after delivery of DD1 so maybe query that.

Just had a quick look at my notes and my blood was tested for antibodies at booking in so if you haven't heard anything I would assume you are fine.

You will probably be tested regularly and will also have a anti d injection around 28 weeks regardless. Obviously any bleeds, trauma to bump such as falling down etc you will probably be given anti d then also (I had a small bleed at 24 weeks and was given it then)

I was worried about it when I first found out I was pregnant again but the midwife has been really on top of it and I dont think rhesus incompatibility is as big a deal these days as it used to be.

I'm almost 37 weeks now and have had no issues at all so I'm sure you will be fine Flowers

I would call your MW. I'm rhesus negative two. I definitely had the anti d after DC1 but not after DC2. They had tested and said I didn't need it.
I would just chat to the MW to put ur mind at rest.

20 weeks pregnant with dc3 and I wasn't injected after either birth of my 2daughters, however I was told they are both negative too. When I saw a consultant with this preg they had my notes from previous pregnancies (10 yrs and 6yrs ago) so I'm wondering if you could enquire about dc1 blood group (if not on drs system-I have no idea if it would be).
I'm worried this time around as its a different partner so wondering if ds1 will be positive but only time will tell I guess. X

Rh- here and didn't receive anti d at all with dc1 either during or after pregnancy ... defiantly had it after with dc2 and dc3 and during and after with dc4 ... dc5 I had anti d after he was induced at 21 weeks born sleeping ... now 34 weeks with dc6 and had it at 30 weeks .. will have it again after delivery!

thanks for replies.

perhaps I will call the midwife to check blood results and find out how I get access to notes from previous pregnancy. I was living elsewhere so different NHS area now.

hopefully my notes would say if I had had it or not. I also have no recollection of my DC1's blood group being checked and no idea if it would be on file anywhere. urgh to having a bad memory!

thanks again

Hi, they will have checked baby's blood group when born, from the cord I think it is, and she will be the same as you if you didn't get anti D. That is what happened to me with DC1 so I didn't need it after the birth. They don't tell you at the time and I can't remember now how I found out that DC1 is same blood group as me!

They definitely didn't take blood from either of my two, I'm sure they take it from the cord OP. I didn't have the injection after DS1 as he was also a negative blood group, but I had to have it after DS2.
