Would you go on holiday at 36 weeks?

We booked centre parcs before i was pregnant, planning bike rides and dog walks with our 2 year old and his grandparents. However, with our change in circumstances I will now be 36 weeks when we go. Its a 3 hour drive from home and our cabin is right on the outskirt so miles away from anything.

I still really want to go but dh and dm think its a bad idea. Mil and fil have already dropped out for health reasons. We got insurance so can cancel without losing much.

Thoughts?

I wouldn't. I'd either be very uncomfortable or looking after a newborn at 36 weeks.

IWantDogger · 12/03/2015 18:45

Before making the decision I'd take into account:

  • if you were early or late with dc1
  • if your pregnancy is considered high or low risk
  • how far you would be from the nearest hospital
  • how quick your last labour was (though my first one was super-long and second super-short!)
  • if you're feeling well just beforehand

If all those factors are ok then take your notes, relax and have fun!

I was 2 weeks late and induced with dc1. Classed as high risk due to high bmi.
would need to check how far from hospital

I would.

MsBug · 12/03/2015 20:49

I would provided it is near to a hospital and there will be the option to do nothing but relax while you are there.

Cisforcat · 12/03/2015 21:05

I wouldn't. Car isnt allowed by your cabin so that in itself is a pain if needed quickly. I'm assuming you'd have no one to leave your 2 yr old with. Would you have everything y needed with you?
Besides- you wouldn't be v mobile or able to go much while your there and getting around the parc would be a nightmare imo.
Personal choice but I woukfnt be willing totAke the risk or stress of it!

Gemzybelle · 12/03/2015 21:07

I would go off how you personally feel. I'm 36 weeks now, almost 37 and couldn't imagine being able to hack a holiday now. But you might be different, think about how you were with DC1 at that stage and decide from there.

WillowB · 12/03/2015 22:05

Personally I wouldn't. DS1 was early and I felt really uncomfortable at 36 weeks. Can't imagine having dragged myself around CP.

MsBug · 12/03/2015 22:06

Would your insurance allow you to cancel at the last minute, if so why not wait and see how you feel?

Wildernessrock · 12/03/2015 22:09

I would. I have felt great at 36w both times. My babies tend to come at 41w+ though so I think it all depends how you feel!

mrshjb · 13/03/2015 08:23

I was hospitalised at 35+6 and induced at 36+1. I'd had a very low risk pregnancy up until that point so I definitely wouldn't. Plus like others said I was v uncomfortable and wouldn't have enjoyed a holiday! Totally down to how you feel and if you can have a contingency plan for if anything goes wrong though!

GotToBeInItToWinIt · 13/03/2015 08:27

I would. I felt fine at 36 weeks with DD, just a bit heavy and achey! She didn't come until 40+6 though. We went away to a wedding 3 hours away for a weekend at nearly 39 weeks.

How were you feeling at that stage in your last pregnancy?

Thanks all. We have decided to delay the break rather than cancel. I just dont want to risk spoiling it by feeling rubbish. Plus if we delay pils can come too

I would pay for a cabin right by cebtre which will have wifi and poss phone signal otherwise if anything happened you'll be firstly running around finding the emergency phone box cabins (no hard wired phones in cabins)

pinkie1982 · 15/03/2015 22:16

Im due to go in a caravan for a week at 39 weeks!! Booked to come home the day before due date! It's booked and paid for. See how I feel at the time and get advice from midwife

sunnydayinmay · 15/03/2015 22:26

Good call. My second arrived, rather unexpectedly, at 36 weeks.

Anaffaquine · 15/03/2015 22:30

Both my kids arrived, unexpectedly at 36wks. I had had a relatively straightforward pregnancy with both until my waters just went.
