Bit of a ridiculous question...

After eating a McFlurry the other day without realising I shouldn't I'm now becoming much more aware of what I should/shouldn't be eating. I'm now staring at a Mini Roll longingly...are these safe to eat? The reason I am unsure, is that milk, eggs and soya are mentioned in the ingredients.

Like I said....bit of a ridiculous question!

Milks, egg and soya are all perfectly fine to consume during pregnancy, have you been cutting them out?

GingerCuddleMonster · 12/03/2015 11:19

your not supposed to eat mcflurry Shock. I never knew this, I ate about one a month when pregnant with DS .

the best place for advice on what you can any can't eat is the NHS website just Google NHS foods to avoid whilst pregnant (sorry I can't link)

mini roll should be fine though .

gamerchick · 12/03/2015 11:20

Ah man you don't need to go down the route of restriction. If you scrutinise every single thing you'll end up eating nothing.

What's wrong with milk and eggs?

TywysogesGymraeg · 12/03/2015 11:21

Why can't you eat a McFlurry? (not pg, but just wondering).

changingagain · 12/03/2015 11:22

What's the problem with the McFlurry? I can't imagine that it has raw eggs or unpasteurised milk in it. They're obviously not very healthy in large quantities but I wouldn't have even considered that either of those things were off limits Confused

Bumpedbonce · 12/03/2015 11:24

Just avoid the stuff likely to give you food poisoning, liver and some stinky cheeses. Although most countries have different rules so I'm really not sure there's any point ditching anything other than booze and fags

happygojo · 12/03/2015 11:25

The McFlurry thing is a listeria thing, like it says you should avoid Mr. Whippy style ice cream. However you would hope that Maccy D's have a pretty strict cleaning process otherwise people would be having listriosis left right and centre.

I had a maccy D's milkshake when I was about 9 weeks and it was the best thing ever. If I have another craving I will have one.

Eat the mini roll! they won't be raw eggs in a mini roll

FernGullysWoollyPully · 12/03/2015 11:25

The thought is that you're not supposed to eat soft scoop ice cream during pregnancy because it can contain listeria.
If you do, it's supposed to be from a reputable place where the machines are cleaned etc. So no street vendors.

I think you'll be ok Wink

crazycatlady82 · 12/03/2015 11:26

Why is it you think you shouldn't eat a mcflurry? Smile

The potential allergens in foods e.g. Peanuts may be better to be eaten during pregnancy as it may give children an 'in-built' defence to these foods becoming allergy foods in the future.

Also studies in animal models have shown that the foods which we eat during pregnancy determine what our children will like/dislike as they grow up.

It's fair to say my baby will like chocolate, biscuits and cake. Note to self - must eat more fruit!

TywysogesGymraeg · 12/03/2015 12:00

But if you shouldn't eat McFlurries because they might contain listeria, surely being pregnant is a red herring? I wouldn't want to eat contaminated food, pregnant or not.

Number3cometome · 12/03/2015 12:00

MCFLURRIES ARE SAFE!!

Mcdonalds have rigorous cleaning regulations in place - nothing to worry about.

onepieceoflollipop · 12/03/2015 12:01

I think re the listeria, it is because you could have it when non pregnant and have no or few ill effects, but of you had it when pregnant, the unborn baby is a lot more susceptible.

knittingirl · 12/03/2015 14:25

Eat McFlurries :)

The potential problem is with soft scoop from eg ice cream vans where their cleaning might not be so good, and there is a risk of listeria. McDs have very strict cleaning policies, so you're good to go :)

Agree with onepiece, it's because the risk of the effects of food poisoning to an unborn baby are much more serious than to anyone else.

TakesTwoToTango · 12/03/2015 14:57

And also I think a pg woman's immune system is lowered so she is more likely to contract food poisoning when exposed to the bacteria when pg than she would when she's not pg.

AnythingNotEverything · 12/03/2015 15:06

This is current advice. Familiarise yourself with it.

www.nhs.uk/conditions/pregnancy-and-baby/pages/foods-to-avoid-pregnant.aspx

McFlurries are fine. Eggs (cooked and/or lion stamped) are fine. Soya is fine. What have you been reading?

squizita · 12/03/2015 16:03

What Anything said! Smile Ignore Web advice bar reputable (ie not fad/biased sites) places from the UK ... NHS, mumsnet, Boots type sites.

International guidelines are affected by their temperatures, supermarket rating systems, ingredients and factory situayions, eating habits and litigation rates. Simply put ... They don't apply here!

BowiesJumper · 12/03/2015 16:28

I was going to say, WHAT'S WRONG WITH MCFLURRY??

PHEW. Sorry, I'm calm now.

Sparrowlegs248 · 12/03/2015 20:11

Ooh mcflurry! Might be tomorrow treat !! Thanks!

countessmarkyabitch · 12/03/2015 20:50

Why would you be unsure about milk, eggs and soya? What do you imagine people eat while pregnant?

scarednoob · 13/03/2015 15:31

i was dying for a snog (like a mcflurry but frozen yoghurt!) but the internet said not to, because although the actual product is fine, you don't know how often the vendor cleans the pipes etc.

so i think it comes down to how much you trust the restaurant/takeout, and how paranoid you are!

i didn't go for it but now it's all i can think about... chocolate flavour with marshmallows and granola and little white chocolate hearts... drool....

countessmarkyabitch · 13/03/2015 15:43

Don't go listening to the internet, its generally idiotic. Its fine to have frozen yoghurt.
Seriously, you can eat almost anything that you would if you weren't pregnant. If you don't trust a vendor to be clean, why would you eat there anyway?

Superexcited · 13/03/2015 19:39

I had a mcdonalds milkshake the other day and plan to have one every week as I really dislike dairy but mcdonalds milkshakes are one of the few dairy items that I can tolerate.

Chchchchanging · 15/03/2015 08:45

As it's Mother's Day, I'm a mother and also pg pls can someone kindly fetch me a crunchier flurry
Btw can you pay for double shots of choc??

hestialou · 15/03/2015 08:51

I have given up everything else please don't take away my creme egg mcflurrry, which am patiently waiting for McDonalds to bring back!!!!
