Morning sickness or side effect?

I have been taking Metformin for the past month and have been ok on it

for the last week and a half I've been feeling increasingly nauseous and exhausted.
The nausea hits usually when I get up and lasts until I have eaten something.

However, for the past few nights the nausea has worked me up at around 2am and has been so bad that I have thrown up.

I will be peeing on a stick soon when I can get to a shop, but my mind is thinking that this could all be a side effect of the metformin.

Has anyone here had similar?

Also: I have heard that HPT don't work with people who have PCOS.
How else can I find out?
I don't have periods so it's not easy to know exactly but after feeling sick and so tried for the past few weeks I'm wondering what's wrong

Not sure about the metformin, but hpt s do work if you have pcos. It is the lh testers (opk) which show when you are most likely to ovulate which sometimes do not work if you have pcos and have consistently elevated levels if lh. (This means you could test positive with the opks everyday and not mean that you are going to ovulate.)

The opks can be used as a pregnancy test as lh is quite similar in structure to hcg (the pregnancy hormone) but not the other way round.

The only way to tell if it is the metformin or a pregnancy is to do a pregnancy test. There are some people who do not get a positive pregnancy test for ages but this is very very rare. Most of the time the pregnancy test will show the right result although you can sometimes I have symptoms a few days before a positive test but not much more than that.

Good luck. I have/had pcos and found by following a low gi diet that my symptoms got a lot better and I got pregnant. It hasn't been an easy road with 2 mcs but I am now 6 weeks away from having my second child and my family being complete.

There can be some nausea with metformin but that's usually straight after taking it, so its advised to take metformin with food.

The most common side effect is diarrhoea and that usually settles within 6-8 weeks of starting metformin. It's one of the reasons the dose is increased very slowly.

Fingers crossed your test is +ve
