Seeing the Anaesthetist today!

Background,

Spinal issues, several operations ranging from discs being removed to partial bone removal.

DS1 - Seizures in labour, EMCS under a GA
DD - ELCS, spinal block, couldn't do an epidural.

DS2 due July - since DD I have had a lumbar spinal fusion (L2-S1) with total disc replacement (m5 spinal kinetics).

I cannot have an epidural and now possible cannot have a spinal block either - I have posted before on this about my partner being present if I am under a GA, will not be doing this now! - natural birth is not an option.

Seeing the anaesthetist today - what should I ask?!

Was thinking how long will I be asleep, recovery time (in recovery room not from c-section)

I know I am going to get there and just forget everything so need to make notes.

I kept dreaming about having more back operations and woke up feeling very sad!!

(ps, my spinal fusion is AMAZING) worst pain ever at first, but now it's like having a new spine - don't want to mess it up, but want to see my child born if possible.

Sorry you didn't get the birth plan you wanted, but at least you know where you stand now and you can get your head around it. Hope you aren't too disappointed Flowers

Was GA the only option? I think they keep it short and light. I had so much back pain after my epidural I think you might be escaping some of it! I have a bilateral pars defect, spondylitis and other spinal issues so wondering what options I will have this time.

The new spine sounds yummy, do you have any loss of mobility??

At first it was a very stiff and I cannot fully bend to do laces but there are easy ways around it. Back ward bending is a no, but no need to do it really. The pain relief I have had from the fusion has been amazing. Much better than expected but it was a very painful operation and a long recovery. GA is the only option, the fusion is too high to go above and I would be risking spinal injury by trying so anaesthetist is not happy to do it. I was gutted but I want what is best for baby so I'm ok.
