Job interviews while pregnant - dilemma

I have relocated to a new city for DH's work (outside of UK) and have interviews with two companies for jobs. But now I'm 6 weeks pregnant.

My idea is to interview with them and if I receive any job offers, to tell the company before accepting any offer that I am pregnant and let them decide how to handle it. But am I being to forthcoming? Is it better not to mention it at all?

I do want a job but the timing is terrible, starting a new role while pregnant seems slightly crazy. But I might miss these opportunities and struggle to get back into my career if I wait until after the baby is born.

I have no idea what to do Confused

I would say it's best not to mention it. I say that as someone who started a job at 20 weeks, albeit interviewed at 12. If you need a job, you need a job.

Don't tell them!

Find out what the mat leave law is in that country.

You may only be able to take a short break anyway.

I am also not in the UK and I had an interview a couple of weeks ago when I was 7 weeks. I didn't tell them as I was so early on and my last pregnancy ended in a mmc at 12 weeks so I am still nervous about my current pregnancy.

It turns out I didn't get the job! I too was worried about having a gap in my career but I am now thinking perhaps this is the time for me to concentrate on my family. I say go for the interview and then see how it pans out if they do offer you the job. Good luck!

Do not tell them until you absolutely have to. Find out the maternity laws for the country you're in, and if there's an HR department you could see if they'll tell you the maternity leave policy without telling the people recruiting you, but as a pp said you don't even know if you'll be offered the job or how the pregnancy will pan out. My only caveat to this would be if the job involved doing something you absolutely cannot do if pregnant but I'd probably still hold out on saying anything until you've had a twelve week scan.
Good luck with the ubterview

Thanks everyone.

The job is an office role so no physical labor, although one involves travel.

Where I am the government policy is 10 weeks paid maternity leave if you have been working somewhere for 40 weeks (which would not qualify for). So it would depend on if the company has its own policy. Not a huge amount of time anyway so I think your advice is all correct!

And indeed good pointing out to wait for scans, I have my first scheduled next week so should not be concerning myself with this until I know the pregnancy is on track!

Don't tell them!! I lost my job at 5 month and was obviously pregnant when I went for interviews was dismissed as soon as people seen me.

I even got told I was a health and safety hazard! Nice!

Standard advice on here is don't tell them. Unless you are applying for a nanny position, in which case you are a evil liar if you do not disclose any pregnancy or unprotected sex at the interview.
