Baby not moved much in 4 days

sarah00001 · 09/03/2015 22:37

Hi, I'm 23+6 days. For the past 4 days my baby hasn't moved as much as normal. I used to feel her kick several times a day and night without really having to concentrate or sit really still. I have felt some kicks in the last 4 days but they don't last long at all, a few seconds, and they're really faint and much less frequent.

I've been very stressed lately as my partner left me some weeks ago and my house has really been getting me down as it's been a tip for ages but in the last 4 days I have been working hard doing a lot of tidying and cleaning. I only get about 5 hrs sleep a night as I find sleeping on my side so uncomfortable, and I also cleaned up some mould recently and I'm wondering if any of these may have harmed my baby.

Has anyone else had periods where their baby hasn't moved as much? I will call my midwife tomorrow in any case.

Thank you, Sarah

I don't think you should wait until tomorrow. You should phone now! 4 dYs of reduced movement is not normal or ok! Any changes in movements should be notified immediately.

KeturahLee · 09/03/2015 22:39

I wouldn't worry too much at such an early stage, the baby can easily move position and you don't feel them so much.

KeturahLee · 09/03/2015 22:39

The OP is not even 24 weeks ohdear - I was told to monitor movement from 28 weeks.

ohdearitshappeningtome · 09/03/2015 22:40

Every person is treated individually the fact is she said she's used to a lot more movements. That's changed doesn't matter how many weeks she is.

debbriana · 09/03/2015 22:42

It's always best to be safe. If you feel like something is wrong make sure you have a checkup. Don't even wait.

ohdearitshappeningtome · 09/03/2015 22:43

There's a charity called count the kicks.

They advise any change in movements to be seen

RhiannonElward · 09/03/2015 22:50

I think at 24 weeks being very busy will mean you haven't noticed the kicks so much, but I do think you need to get yourself checked over. You're clearly concerned there's something wrong so get yourself to the midwife asap.

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 09/03/2015 22:57

Agree that regardless of weeks you should go and get checked. Ring triage and do it now. Better to have an un needed trip that was nothing than wait and there be a problem. You know your body and your baby, if it feels wrong you should get it checked.

I'm 24 weeks and had this last week. They tell you not to monitor kicks until 28 weeks as they are still small so a change in their movement means you just can't feel it. They are also not in a routine yet. Mine went a lot quieter for 3 days but had me up last night at 3am with the most kicks I have ever had. I think my bubba was lower down or facing the other way last week.

However if you are worried then call your midwife, you should do what makes you feel better and no one else. If you were 28 weeks+ I would definitely ring the midwife.

I was reassured by a quick internet search that showed how common a change at 23 weeks is. Not that I will always rely on google but this time it proved right.

Call your midwife to reassure yourself.

I had reduced movement when I was about 23 weeks, I went into the hospital and they checked me over found the heartbeat and just said that the baby was hiding further back in my womb so I wouldn't feel much movement.

Always best to check though Smile

Teeste · 10/03/2015 09:26

I had this over the weekend (am 26 weeks tomorrow). I was at a baby show with a drop-in midwife centre, they advised me to call triage. So I did, went in, was seen very quickly as it was a Saturday and no-one else was there. The MW found the heartbeat no problem and my blood pressure returned to normal! It's so easy to get so anxious about all this, but as pp have said, they're still quite small and have lots of places to hide. The MW also told me some babies are just 'lazy' or go through sleepy phases.

That being said, there's nothing like hearing that heartbeat for some stress relieving reassurance! The MW said I had done exactly the right thing in going in. So I'd ring triage and see what they say. It's what they're there for.

InQuiteAPickle · 10/03/2015 09:33

Ring the Midwife. Any change in movement should always be checked, better to be safe than sorry.

Even if you phone and they tell you that they won't do anything under 28 weeks then at least you tried - no harm in checking and them reassuring you. I'm pretty sure that they would want to monitor under 28 weeks though - my friend is 24 weeks and her baby was a bit sluggish last week (she was ill and was worried that it was affecting the baby) and they made her go in to be checked.

sarah00001 · 10/03/2015 12:51

Thank you all for your replies. I can't get hold of my midwife but have left a message for her to call me. I did however speak to another midwife at the hospital. She said that as I am feeling some movements, they won't do anything at this stage, as I am below 28 weeks. She thinks the baby has perhaps moved position which is why I'm not feeling her move as much. I have noticed that my breathing is much much easier whereas before I was struggling to breathe and kept feeling faint, especially lying or sitting down, so it's possible the baby has moved position. Last night, I drank a large glass of orange juice and ate some cake to see if the sugar would get her to move and I felt nothing. Then a couple of hours later, around 1am, she started kicking on and off for over half an hour. I have noticed that in the past she hasn't responded to sugary foods or drinks. I'm not sure whether or not I should be concerned at this but the midwife didn't seem worried. When my midwife calls me back I'm going to ask if I she can listen on the doppler in any case.

Did you phone your midwife OP?

NickyEds · 10/03/2015 13:03

Don't worry about responding/not responding to sugary drinks-it's by no means a given that they will. In all probability your baby has just shifted into a position that's harder to feel the kicks. With ds I was 28 ish weeks before a real pattern emerged to kicks and from then on I was more diligent in keeping an eye on them, up to then as pp have said baby's position and how busy you are means you can easily miss them and it's not necessarily something to worry about.

MildDrPepperAddiction · 10/03/2015 13:05

Ring your midwife or admissions at your hospital now. It's prob ok, I had this with both my Dds, but better safe than sorry. Xx

sarah00001 · 11/03/2015 15:21

Hi all, I just heard the heartbeat on the doppler and it seems to be fine. The midwife said they wouldn't do any further checks at this stage, as I'm only 24 wks, but she is happy with the heartbeat.

She said baby has moved right over to the left which could explain why I'm feeling less movement. I was convinced she'd moved as where she was before felt so heavy and uncomfortable, making breathing difficult. Now everything feels a lot lighter and more comfortable, so I must have a very considerate little girl!

Thanks all for your advice and support. Always better to get checked out rather than worry.

Sarah
