Hi there
Have been told I have Sympphysis pubis dysfunction - this is characterised by under bump burning / muscular / bone type pain which ranges from moderate to severe - it is worse when I have walked alot!!!!
Has anyone else had this & do you have any self-help techniques?
Please help!
Katherine

No it is fine to take time of work for this & your GP should offer to sign you off. Its a very legitimate & painful problem. You should also suggest your employers do an new risk assessment for you now you have found out you have SPD.

Squishy-
If you havent delivered yet then mention it to your MW as there are some positions that are better for SPD sufferes to deliver in.

I had SPD with all three pregnancies with paint starting with the last one starting at 14 wks. I was on crutches and finally in a wheel chair but had co-codamol for the pain and was referred to a physio where they tried hydrotherapy (mine was too bad for it to make a difference but it might help). You need advice on sensible birthing positions and practical support but it is out there if you ask. The more you do now to help yourself, the better and you might be able to reduce any impact after you give birth - this is not true for all but I was lucky and my symptoms improve almost immediately after giving birth. Good luck

I had this with my 2nd PG, was referred by the MW to the Physiotherapy Dept at the hospital, they can give you some useful exercises, they also provided me with a pair of crutches to use. If you are struggling around the house, Homestart may be able to give you some help, particularly if you have other children to care for.
Don't ignore SPD, get some advice/help.
