Anyone else travel whilst pregnant? I'm sure I should avoid unnecessary jabs but I'm not sure if I can travel to SE Asia without them?
I am ttc no.2 and considering a holiday this Summer.

Perhaps ask your doctor for how long after the jabs you should avoid pregnancy and then wait until AF shows, have the jabs immediately and hold off TTC for a bit, if you really want to go. Personally I wouldn't go to those countries without having had the jabs (and taking anti malarials, which you possibly can't take while pg - another point to check with gp). But then, I'd also probably not go to those countries while pg as i understand that the medical facilities for dealing with eg ectopic pg, miscarriage and/or very premature birth there are no where near as available as here and I wouldn't want to take the risk.

Everyone has their own appetite for risk though so ultimately it's your call (in consultation with baby's other parent and the person who is going to have to deal with the logistics of getting medical attention for you if you need it).

I have in the past received medical treatment in Bangkok and the care was excellent and far, far surpassed anything I've received in the uk. Vietnam and Cambodia have upper classes (read, rich people) so there will be good private hospitals there too I would think. I'd go without any qualms! Speak to your gp surgery re jabs and anti malarials, they will be able to get hold of current advice.

Bangkok is a rather different kettle of fish though isn't it?! OP if you are minded to go, it might be worth finding out what local medical facilities are available in the locations you plan to visit. Even with some private hospital available in the region, it's eminently possible to be the best part of a day's travel time away from them.

We lived in Asia for a while and travelled about while pregnant, didn't really cross my mind not to...also can't remember if I had any extra jabs sorry but would chat to your doc about it in relation to ttc..

Only thing that might make me not want to go would be if you end up getting pregnant closer to summer and have horrid morning sickness..not much fun for a hot exotic holiday!

Oh and there are Good hospitals and easy to get to Bangkok if needs be, make sure your insurance is top notch though.. At the most you would be what 4 months pregnant by then, so you are not looking at early labour or anything like that. If your other pregnancy was low risk I would say go for it!

See your Practice Nurse before you plan to conceive. Be aware that away from the coast in Vietnam and big chunks of Cambodia have a higher incidence of Malaria and that careful choice of meds is necessary.

Hiya for vietnam it is all normal jabs with Japanese encephalitis and rabies recommended if you are going out in the sticks. You should take malarone in a lot of places in Vietnam which I don't think you can do preg. I wouldn't worry too much about health care if you are sticking to hanoi, Saigon and hoi an as long as you have good comprehensive insurance. if you travel in the summer, it will be rainy season in a lot of SE Asia and not best time to go really. Autumn and spring are best.
