Oh, I had this with both pregnancies. Well, not ulcers exactly, but giant craters, so my tongue was somewhat uncomfortable and very scary looking. My dentist looked at it and said it was probably oral thrush, but the treatments weren't worth it, in pregnancy.

If I avoided vinegary, mustardy and acidic foods, it wasn't so bad, but I generally didn't bother. It went away once I had my baby, both times.

Thanks fot that, they are only little painful dots on the end of my tongue. The type you get when your run down but they normally disapear! Real pain, thanks for the advice! thats salt and viniger crisps out the window then! bummer!

Ah, right, proper blistery things. Boots used to do a sort of pastile for them that worked quite well ... probably fine in pregnancy?

Funnily enough my mum always had mouth ulcers - the only time they went away was when she was pregnant.

Just proves she does things back to front

Yeah, both mine are over and done - I have two boys, 5 and 2. The first pregnancy takes forever, particularly those last weeks ... it's all pretty soon forgotten when you've got a baby around.

I seems likes it going very quickly at the moment although Im sure the bigger I get the more impatient I will get. How did you know what to do when you brought your first one home?

Oh, I didn't.

Well, SIL changed his nappy in front of me in the hospital, and both DH and I watched surreptitiously. Oh, and we were spoiled, we had our own midwife, who bathed him with us at home ...

Well because I haven't gone the NHS route I don't have a midwife, my doctors fantastic but once the babies out its up to me! My only other option is to get a Maturnity nurse to come daily, but they are very expensive and not really sure if it worth it! Haven't even registered with my local doctors yet, recently moved house! must do that! Still not sure what to so, as me and my other half will be clueless! panic...

Hmmm, midwives aren't great at breastfeeding support, but going without a midwife entirely probably isn't wise? Your local surgery will provide midwife support, wherever and however you have your baby (I had to opt out of that, as my own midwife gave support).

I get really bad ulcers (not through pregnancy) on my tongue, under my tongue and on the back of my tonsils. The are evil! But the only thing I have found that actually works is Adcortyl in Oralbase (over the counter in pharmacy), which is a paste type thing. I checked with the dr and she said it is ok to use in pregnancy. Well worth it if they are giving you gip!
