Hello
I'm 17 + 4 and since Friday have had pains in my bump. Bump properly popped out last weekend, stretch marks and all!
I got a bit stressed on Friday in work so I'm obviously anxiously linking this to the pains. Most of the pain is at the bottom of my bump but with pains also down in front of my pubic bone and shooting pains inside.
Do these sound like normal growing pains or should I be concerned?

Based on my experience your baby's head could be down in your pelvis (ache at the bottom of the bump) and you might have a touch of SPD (pain inside pubic area). Best thing is to call and speak to the midwife if for no other reason than to put your mind at rest-that's what they're there for and in my experience are happy to reassure first time mums

Thanks 2015 I'll call tomorrow if it's still the same

Hi, it does sound like stretching pains and maybe the start of SPD.
I find if I cough or sneeze without curling up or if I stand/move/twist too quickly I get a sharpe pinging like pain under the bump either side, I'm 19 wks with my second and had the same with the first.
Also had SPD which is where the pain in the groin and pubic area came in, as well as hips towards the end.
What I found a big help was a large tubi-grip given to me by the physio as it gave a lot more support than the normal bump bands from the shops.
You can get them on Amazon as well, size's J-L are the trunk ones and the Easi-grip brand is cheaper, around 7 for a 1m length which you can wear doubled over.
Best thing to aviod is over stretching, keeping legs together while turning in bed and getting in/out of the car (sit on seat sideways and swivel in/out).
A large pillow will also help between your legs while in bed.

I had this when I was about 17 weeks. My GP said that there's lots of muscles stretching so it's normal but she did examine me just to be sure.

Based on the fact she wanted to examine me I would say it's best to call your midwife and double check everything is ok. Smile

II get the shooting pains when coughing/sneezing. I believe its the round ligaments that are stretching to accommodate your growing uterus.

I am 19 weeks and have lots of this type of pain going on!!

I'm 22 weeks and have been getting this. Aching mixed with shooting soreness down either side of my bump (which is absolutely massive already). I didn't really get this with ds and I'm really surprised to have it now, I would have thought everything was still a bit stretched from last time (ds is 14 months). To be honest everything about this pregnancy has been harder I, probably rather naively, thought it would be easier second time round.

Thanks everyone. Good to know it's not that unusual but sorry to hear you're suffering too! Haven't had the same pains today so assume it must have been stretching but if it starts again I'll definitely call the midwife (Grin)
Thanks lemming for that info, will have a nosey online if it starts up again.
Sorry you're having a hard time nicky Flowers and hope the pains die down for others!

I too thought 2nd pg would be easier! But then I had no symptoms with dd1!
I'm currently in a ball with bad shooting pains down the left side of my tummy (don't really have a visable bump yet even at 21w!)
Sort of goes from tummy button level down to top of pubic bone level.
I agree that if it continues, call mw. I work with an ex mw so can turn to her if needs be. It does hurt tho, I feel ur pain.
Gl with ur pg
