Ways to improve chances iof induction

Just that really,I've got an induction next week but I know they don't always take. I'm an early induction-34 weeks- so I don't think any of the 'traditional methods' of natural induction will work.

No idea really as it's earlier than most induction but wanted to let you know I was induced 37+5 and I wasn't favourable at all but the gel pessary worked for me. 24 hrs later I was 3 cm dialated and us was enough for them to break my waters, it kicked started the labour although I did heed the drip too in the end if all progressed fairly well and dd was born vaginally 36 hours after pessary. Only 6 1/2 hrs of these were actual labour though, the rest was just a long waiting game.

Hope all goes well for you. Fingers crossed the induction takes and progresses well for you.

That's good to know! What is 'favourable'?

I think ( could be wrong) that it means the cervix is soft and has starred to efface. Mine hadn't at all, dd was my first so my cervix had never been through labour either sit it was high, closed and hadn't soften yet. Lik I said 24 hrs after pessary I was dilating and fully effaced. So it worked for me. If I'm correct this is you third? Hopefully it means you might already be favourable and the pessary might work really well for you.

Aah,I think in that case I am still 'unfavourable' as was high and closed at last check, but hoping that the fact my body has done it before and baby has been sitting head down and really low for about 6 weeks should help. V nervous about it though!

Definitely the fact that you've done it before should work in your favour. Also after having had the pessary, if they let you, go and walk around the hospital up and down some stairs if you feel up to it. Maybe take someone along. I must gave walked the lenght and height of the hospital 3-4 times over during that day, but it was a nice distraction. It's so boring waiting and I was too wired to sit still and read or anything else.

I have been induced twice 1st time only took 1 gel 2nd time it took 2 gels. Both labours were around 9hrs from gel to delivery.

flippityflip · 06/03/2015 16:31

I think in our hospital they don't use the gel anymore they use a slow release pessary which they can remove if labour starts, apparently that kind of reduces the risk of induction leading to a more intense labour, though I went faster to fully dilated with number two and so anticipate if they can get it started it may go faster again this time. It's the getting it started part I'm concerned about not happening as really want to avoid a section if baby can cope ok with labour!

Advice to me was get out and about around the hospital especially stairs. Unfortunately it didn't work for me but worked for my other NCT group that were induced.

I was induced at 37 weeks with dc2. I had 24 hrs with the pessary which dilated me enough to break my waters she was born 10 hrs later. The fact that this is your second baby really goes in your favour I'm sure everything will be fine. I actually really enjoyed my induction was so well looked after and pain relief whenever I wanted it. Good luck! :)

I was induced at 36+1 at 12pm with a slow release pessary. I had DS at 36+3 at 2.31am. So it was a slow process but my active labour was only a few hours. Just keep moving and walk as much as possible but also take stuff to do in case there is a lot of waiting around and you need to sit down for a bit. Good luck!
