Quick and 'frantic' movements?

Has anyone had this? I'm 37 weeks today and just had a weird movement spell that can best be described as like frantic knocking? It was about 5 very rapid movements in the same spot that came after a period of normal movement (just settling into place type movements) and then she didn't move for a few minutes. Since then there have been sort of muted movements that I can feel so called the midwife who said not to worry and just take a sugary drink and see what happens. Have done this and she's moving again but will keep an eye on it.

She's engaged so don't think it was a 'big' movement. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced this? I think the thing that freaked me out was that it felt like she was panicking? I know that sounds totally ubsurd and this is my second baby and I've not been prone to moments of panic this time round anyway.

Hiccups?

I had a very hiccuppy baby both in utero and once he was born. They felt like quick little knocks. DS would have them for 20 minutes at a time but I know other women who's babies only had them for a minute or two.

Don't think so. These were seriously pronounced movements right under my left ribcage. And unless she's done a full somersault since Tuesday she is probably still engaged :)

Yes, I felt exactly that a few days ago and had exactly the same thoughts. I'm 31w and I dismissed it apprehensively, knowing that the midwife would only say its normal or nothing to worry about, or something to that effect.

I get movements like this quite a lot. It makes me think what on earth is he doing in there? I try to imagine what he would look like as a newborn doing the movements.
Very quick jabbing movements all in the same place. Like he's knocking. But hard and kinda shaking at the same time. I can't really explain. Almost like a dance Hmm

He has his usual rolls and random kicks and hiccups too. I'm 31 weeks.

Yeah it was almost like you'd imagine when a dogs leg shakes when it's scratching itself? Or if you were rubbing your ear trying to get rid of an itch? Very very fast movement.

33 weeks and often get this too ... I just assume she's shifting and getting comfy ... even when engaged they can still spin from back to front and back again ... and I think maybe she's stamping and it's her knees I'm feeling knocking

Slavetominidictator · 05/03/2015 22:19

I get this too and did in my last pregnancy. Am now 37 wks. Someone (on here I think) told me it was the baby practising breathing. Not sure that's accurate but was reassured others' babies do it too.

RandomMess · 05/03/2015 22:23

Any change in your regular movements should be checked out. Please if it's not normal for your baby it's not worth the risk.

DishwasherDogs · 05/03/2015 22:29

Agree with random, any change should be checked out.
At risk of repeating her post, it's not worth risking.

Littlefrenchmummy · 05/03/2015 22:35

Yes always have checked out in doubt but if it helps I remember my baby doing the same thing. It was bizarre his kicking was sometimes very sudden and rapid like an angry boxer aiming at a precise place. Didnt happen with my first pregnancy and I was a bit worried? I have a very healthy and happy 1 year old now x x x

WhatAHooHa · 05/03/2015 22:37

As above, please read this

Feckeggblue · 05/03/2015 22:39

Yes ive had thrashing also. OP has already contacted her midwife hasn't she?

weeblueberry · 05/03/2015 23:38

Thank you all. Yes I checked with my midwife who said to monitor for an hour and if movements weren't as normal to call triage. I went into work, had a laaaarge bottle of Dr Pepper and she started kicking away as normal. Her patterns have been absolutely regular this afternoon and evening but if it happens again I will call triage directly Smile

Appreciate everyones advice. Smile

I had this a lot in my first pregnancy. I think they are startle (moro) reflexes they are doing inside.
